We know the pain you are suffering, having taken hers away, yes, you did right by your girl.

I have followed this thread, and am so glad that you had a final holiday together, a very special time before the end.

John, I am so sorry you had to make this decision.  It is never easy and I am glad you were able to take a holiday together.

So sorry to hear about your dog.  Our GSD had bone cancer, and we also had her on Tramadol, which did a pretty good job of controlling the pain and didn't bother her sensitive GSD gut.  It wasn't enough though. We're fortunate to take our dogs to a wonderful vet hospital in Cotati, CA that has a doc who's specialized in Chinese medicine.  With her support, our girl lived a miraculous 4 and half happy and comfortable years after the Monday she was to be put down.  She did acupuncture treatments every 2-3 weeks, together with Chinese herbs (in pills) and was able to control the edema, pain and other symptoms.  Truly miraculous.  Good luck, and consider seeing if there are any vet acupuncturists in your area.

I am so so, sorry to have posted late (about the acupuncture).  Didn't mean to be insensitive. I see that you already had to make that painful decision.  I am glad that you were able to help her find relief and peace.
