On Saturday, May 28, 2011, my friend's 16-month old German showline girl got away from her in Landrum, South Carolina. She has inundated the area with flyers (below), and the dog is microchipped, but Landrum is a pretty rural area, and there's no telling where the dog might have run to. The dog is friendly, but probably very scared, especially after being on her own for 4 days.

My friend is beside herself, and at this point doesn't know what to do. She has no leads so far.

Good luck, hope she is found.  Try sending the flyer to;  post offices, electric companies, any other public service company in your area that might have the chance to see her while out working.
Some fire & police departments will allowe you to post the missing add with them as well for more eyes out looking.  Also send the flyer to all the local vet's within 15-20 mile radius to where you live including tatooe / micro-chip info.
Also some local news station sometimes will help report lost pets.

Most dogs don't wonder too far from where they were orginally lost, & if they do try to circle back.  Focus on 1 mile radius of where the dog was lost.  Start walking with in that mile leaving the owner's dirty smelly socks along the way every 1/4 mile or so. Try walking parelell to roads & leave the socks in visual locations off the roads that is still safe for the dog. Each sock location tie colored tape to a tree / bush, so you can easily see the svent article of the sock are from the road. The dog should be drawn in to find her owner's scent by the socks & has the best chance of being seen a safe distance off the a road way yet still visuable. The owner / volunteer should drive along the road ways throughout the day / night. Stop & get out to check each sock area for signs your dog has been their by prints or missing sock. If you see any leave a bowel of water & a favorite dog toy plus another dirty smelly sock from the owner.
You should see your dog on your next visit within an hour to the same sites. If not leave her dog bed inside a crate under the cover of some bushes so she'll feel safe & as a part of home next to the scent sorce of her owner.
Should find her waiting in the crate the next time.  If not successful after a few days you'll have to expand you radius.
