Typically the grand parents, very rarely the parents.

All puppies out of one of my females look just like her, regardless of who she's bred to. I might as well clone her instead of breed her, lol.

Dear all, Well, I mean how much percent puppies will look like their father and how much percent puppies will look their mother when they are grown up ? Why poeple prefer to say this male is Zamp vom thermodos' son or Vegas' son ? How can you recognize all of the sons of famous fathers or famous lines. Thanks |

My male looks more like his great grandmother (sire side) and/or grandfather (dams side) than either of his parents or grandparents. My male (@ 10 months, he is now 2 years old): http://www.pedigreedatabase.com/german_shepherd_dog/dog.html?id=615149 Great-grandfather: http://www.pedigreedatabase.com/german_shepherd_dog/dog.html?id=524351 Great-grandmother: http://www.pedigreedatabase.com/german_shepherd_dog/dog.html?id=126125

Elisa, in my opinion your dog looks like his grandmother/father side but in a male expression. ![]() ![]()

Just as children may take after one or another parent, so it is with puppies. Depending upon whether the father's or mother's side has more genetic influence, or has a very distinctive feature that is passed along, will determine who the pups will look like. And of course, if you have a lot of love & pride in your dog, their pups may look like them, to you, even if they were really baby elephants! LOL! Seriously, tho' some dogs do seem to have a genetic stamp that allows them to reproduce themselves & if they are very good dogs, that makes them even better. jackie harris

What we're trying to say is "it depends!" As Jackie says, some do have a strong genetic stamp that makes people able to look at a picture and say "oh, that's a so-and-so pup" but most dogs have a little of both in them, as most children. Sometimes they lean more one way than another. Brynjulf, who's "everyone"? You mean Capri, right? I have others but I haven't bred them.

From the litters that I have bred MOST of the puppies have thrown to the sire (isn't that why we use said stud dog?)

dogshome9, Yes correct you are, but as said to each law there is a deviation, in this case it's Capri, Jenni did her homework, maybe had good luck too. Jenni I'm happy for you, keep up the good work and........ the nice posts. Ibrahim
