Stupid Neighbor by JWALKER on 15 April 2011 - 02:52 |
| OK. My neighbor asked if she could use my oven to cook her family dinner since her's was out of commission. (she is getting hardwood floors put in and they took the oven out of the kitchen.) I had no problem with it. well she came over and did what she needed to do and cooked her food. A couple of hours go by and me and Sargo my 14 month old GSD was just laying down taking a nap. I had the door unlocked and she just walked on in. Sargo tried to kill this poor lady. She dropped a pan of pork chops all over the floor and started crying. Mean while Sargo had her backed into the corner just barking like crazy. I jumped up and once I realized it was her I called him off. She had to go to the emergency room and get stitches in her foot because the pan cut her foot pretty bad since she had on flip flops. Now her husband is blaming me saying that I have a vicious dog. THIS HAS PISSED ME OFF. They have never just walked in my house and I dont let anyone just walk in because I have a dog that will protect the house. |

| Let things cool off for a day, and then talk to 'em. She's still upset from the fright, and he wont calm down until she does. Once they've had time to digest it, they'll realize she was in error. If you get defensive, it'll only fuel the fire. |

| Your right. I gave her a call and appologized. I dont know why but I did. I think things are fine. It just ticks me off how people will try to blame others for there mistakes. |

| Sign of the times, I think. Personal responsibility is a rare commodity, these days. Walk into my house unannounced, and the dog is the least of your worries. |

| I recommend that you lock your door. What if a small child or a mentally handicapped person had opened your door and been bitten? Try telling the judge it was "their" fault. I'm not trying to bust your you-know-what because I have 3 GSD's and I can relate to you completely. I'm trying to help you and others like us to avoid a problem. Don't rely on anyone else's supposed intelligence or common sense to protect your dog from having to bite some dumb**** and then being charged with being a "vicious dog". |

| No one was bitten. They were barked at. Nothing more. |

| Mudwick, Good to see you again. I agree with locking the door. My doors are never unlocked. I have had the wind blow the door open and the dog walk out. I have a dog that will defend his territory seriously, if he is in the house my doors are locked to avoid that exact situation. Remember, common sense is the leat common of all the senses. Jim |

| It's good to be back. It's refreshing to see so many training threads! I lock doors behind me without thinking. So much so, that my girlfriend has occasionally been locked out when dallying between the car and the house. It's just habit. Just wanted to stress that the OP's dog didn't bite anyone. |

| Agree. Lock the door. "Stupid" on both sides. If the door was locked, she would have knocked. She should have knocked anyhow, but what are you gonna do? Maybe if you pull the "naked move", she'll think twice about knocking. Maybe not? ;) |

I understand your dog's behavior completely because my girl is the same way. That is a good dog that did the right thing! He didn’t bite the neighbor; just let you know that an uninvited visitor was in a house. |

| So what i am gathering from you Chaz is that I was "stupid" not to lock the door. I do not see it that way. A oversight yes but stupid no. You do not just walk into someone's house. My door's are always locked to. It is something that I make sure of most of the time just because. With the lady back and forth several times I just simply forgot to lock the door. She had knocked each time before that And each time before that I let her in. |

It should have been a Chinese Take-Out night. I would never bother a neighbor to make pork chops on their stove, not unless I was cooking for everyone in that house, too! Really, don't they have an outdoor grill of their own? |

| Well after she left I had to tell him several times to leave em alone. Then I just put him away so I could clean up. He is mop crazy. Lol. |

| Good job for being so gracious and mature as to apologize even though you and your boy did nothing wrong. |
by Chaz Reinhold on 15 April 2011 - 13:26 |
| I wouldn't say either of you were "stupid". I was using your word. But yes, you should have locked the door and the neighbor should have knocked, even if you didn't have a dog. |

| Well, it doesn't take a genius to think of knocking prior to entering someone's home w/a dog. Now, Jerry, for the love of God, take down your post or edit it to reflect what actually happened (HE ONLY BARKED AT HER) unless you would like it to be used in court against you. GAWD! Talk about stupid... |

| The more I think about it, what was the neighbor doing coming back in the house? She cooked those pork chops hours ago according to you. Was she coming back to warm them up or offer you leftovers for dinner? Chaz, Jerry apparently was not naked. Now, I wonder maybe we should ask if the neighbor was.............sneaking in the house with pork chops .......... and there's Jerry asleep, LOL Forgot about Fido though...........should have thrown him a pork chop from the get go! LOL |

| Beetree you are to funny...lol... I had my wisdom teeth taken out on Wed. and so I was all jacked up on percocet....(is that how you spell it)....Anyways. I was out of it. My wife and kids actually went to get sushi....lol...And beetree I should have been spread eagle naked on the couch. but that would have been awkward in front of the dog. lol. But let me clarify this much.....my dog never touched the lady. just barked. (thanks jenn). |

| ooooooops.....forgot to answer your question beetree. she was bringing some over for us. that is why she came back. |
by Chaz Reinhold on 15 April 2011 - 16:13 |
| I guess that is easier than just leaving some for you. |
