Can anyone give me advice about puupy feeding.Hes 6 months old and weighes 30 kg.Im feeding him Royal Canin junior and on the packet it says 30 kg 405 g.Now does this mean a day or per meal?.I have started giving him 3 cupfulls per meal 3 times a day.If its 405 g per day then thats only 1 and a half cupfulls per meal which isnt very much.Im confused as its not clear on the packaging and my vet and breeder says he needs to eat more.Has anyone any ideas?.Thanks

My Adults get 2 cups per DAY of eagle or 1/2 a chub of the raw diet I feed most of our dogs.(don't know how many cups in a chub :)  Three cups per meal is a very large amount.  Can you see his back rib when he turns?  If you can see that rib he is about the right weight for his size.  If he really needs 9 cups a day, try another food.

I think you are over feeding the pup. What is on the bag is the suggested DAILY feeding size. So split the recommended daily portion on the bag into 3 meals (or how many times a day you are feeding)  and give that for each feeding. It is a suggested guide so you may have to increase or decrease based on your pup's activity level and if he is too light or heavy.

I think 30kg at 6 months is a bit on the heavy side. You should keep him on the lean (but not skinny) side until he gets older and not put too much weight on him so young.

Hi Thanks for that.

Its very hard to know what to do,the vet told me to increase his food i was giving him 1 and a half cupfulls per meal 3 x a day as she said he was on the skinnu side. You cant see his ribs but the front of his body and his chest are quite big but the back end isnt.Perhaps 3 cups a meal is too excessive really.I thought the guide on the food was a structured amount the dog should have per day.I will try and see how he develops on 2 cups.

hi,

it depends on how active he is.. my guy is 7 months today:)  and he gets 2 carrots with 1 1/2 twice aday.
so 3 cups total for the day, and 4 carrots due to omega 3. :)  nicer coat and skin.

if your feeding 2 cups 3 times aday. thats kinda too much.. remeber keep your dog thin and lean till its hit around 12months..  heavy dog equals a very expensive vet bill...

keep it thin, i would feed 3 cups aday. thats it and treats and such!!

and my guy eats orijen fish

The amount shown on the bag is the total amount that should be fed for the duration of the day. At 6 months, he should be on 2 feeds per day as his stomach should be big enough for this. Remember, dry food has very high energy levels and will expand in his stomach with water, therefore, what seems like a little bit in quantity is really enough.

30kgs at 6 months does seem quite heavy, but it does really depend on the bloodlines. The other are right about keeping him lean. Over weight will only put undue pressure on his joints. I've had to reduce my pup's weight as he was 27kg at 5 months. He is about the same age as yours.
