| Quote by Don Deluxe: "In the end what she has to say doesn't really matter, as I cannot fathom any defense attorney anywhere allowing her to take the stand and testify in her own defense." The operant word there is "allowing." It is almost axiomatic that defendants are often their own worst enemies and insist on testifying, despite the fact that he/she should know that to the rest of us he/she has no more credibility than Baron von Munchhausen. |

| You are of course correct.* I'd bet though that she'll plead out, just like last time, and then turn around and say that she had to give up because the vast PETA -influenced conspiracy arrayed against her was just too much to overcome. That way she preserves her self-image, which of course is the paramount consideration of the sociopath. *I often tell my clients "I have two enemies in this matter - the other side and YOU." |

She can never acknowledge or accept any responsibility for her actions. She probably never has. I would love to see a trial, though, where she starts ranting about someone named "Sock Puppet" who kept "harassing" her and how he was at the heart of that PETA conspiracy. ![]() btw-- I would like to sponsor a trophy at the 2011 USCA Nationals in honor and recognition of the "offenders." |

Gregory and Janice Bartmess
Police arrested the daughter and son-in-law of an 86-year-old Hawthorne woman who was neglected and living in filthy conditions with 13 sick dogs, officials said Saturday.
The victim, who was not identified, was found in bed Friday afternoon, suffering from open sores and atrophy and wearing clothing soiled with feces and urine, said Lt. Gary Tomatani of the Hawthorne Police Department.
The woman was conscious at the time but unresponsive, officials said. She was taken to a nearby hospital and is receiving medical treatment.
Police arrested her daughter, Janice Bartmess, 60, and son-in-law, Gregory Bartmess, 60, on suspicion of elder abuse and animal cruelty. Both suspects were convicted of animal mistreatment

in 2000.
It is unclear whether the couple live with the victim.
"We are trying to determine at this time where they live," Tomatani said.
Police responded to the home in the 3700 block of 119th Place after receiving a tip from an anonymous caller worried that the woman had died.
When they arrived, officers found "extremely unsanitary conditions," according to a police statement. Trash was piled in front of the home, and large amounts of animal feces had been covered with cut grass or hay near the door. An odor of spoiled or rotting food emanated from the home, officials said.
When officers knocked on the front door, they heard a television or radio at high volume, but no one answered.
As they went to the back of the house they spotted several large dogs and called for assistance from Los Angeles County Animal Control.
Officers were plotting how to secure the dogs inside the home when the suspects drove up to the home and let officers inside, Tomatani said.
Officers found the woman in a bedroom, extremely unkempt. Containers of spoiled food and animal feces were strewn all over the floor, officials said.

all of them in various stages of neglect. The Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Los Angeles also responded.
Some of the dogs were living in cramped crates, and others were tethered in rooms of the home, according to the SPCA. The animals are weak, thin and flea-infested, officials said.
The dogs are receiving veterinary care, and were taken to the county animal shelter in Carson.
In a statement, Madeline Bernstein, president of the Los Angeles SPCA, said the "relationship between domestic violence, elder abuse and animal cruelty is uncontested."
In 1999, Janice and Gregory Bartmess were arrested after police found 64 German shepherds living in squalid conditions at a Gardena kennel, records show.
The dogs were kept in tight cages and crates, and at least one had to be put to sleep.
Janice Bartmess, who owned South Bay Pet Inn in Gardena, told the Daily Breeze at the time that the charges were exaggerated and that the couple had "good intentions" by opening the now-shuttered kennel.
Gregory and Janice Bartmess each pleaded guilty in 2000 to one count of mistreating an animal as part of a plea agreement. They were sentenced to one day in jail, received a $200 fine and were placed on three years' probation, during which time they were prohibited from owning animals.

| The elderly victim in the current case will receive medical treatment and eventually undergo a mental health assessment, Tomatani said. She will remain in the custody of county Adult Protective Services.
Police and county officials will continue to investigate the allegations, officials said. Anyone with information should contact the Hawthorne Police Department at 310-349-2820. |

| Does anyone with any contact with the authorites know how the mom is doing? I think one article said she was unresponsive but bonscience. |
by VomMarischal on 09 March 2011 - 20:02 |
| DD, I decided to also call LA Adult Protective Services. |

| Has anybody read through the old thread that actually exposed DDR-DSH here on the PDB? All these links on the previous threads are just from last year! She has been coming here on and off since about 2007. I had called her out on her history a couple of times in the past few years but had the impression that people just did not care much about! Of course, most of you were not registered users here back then! Here is the old Boban thread (pay attention to page 4, although all pages are worth reading): www.pedigreedatabase.com/german_shepherd_dog/bulletins_read/77690.html After that thread, I never forgot her name again! | "btw-- I would like to sponsor a trophy at the 2011 USCA Nationals in honor and recognition of the 'offenders.'" Better yet, call it "The Lucky Thirteen" in recognition of the dogs who now have a new lease on life. |

| @ Silbersee I remember and thanks for not forgetting. |

| Sock Puppet, if I remember correctly from reading here - and forgive me for not knowing details since I am not on here on a daily basis - you are a computer expert. Can you find threads from 2007, 2008 and 2009 which DDR-DSH participated in? I have been trying for the past half hour or so to find them but can't. The only reason I found the old Boban thread is because I searched for the name "Boban". There have been other times when she was called out here, I know that for a fact (unless they were deleted of course). Chris |
by Sock Puppet on 09 March 2011 - 20:47 |
| LOL, I am no computer expert. What side are you searching on? Have you tried the other forum, all breeds(general). It is the old GSD forum and might have more than if you are just searching on this side. |
by Mystere on 09 March 2011 - 21:14 |
| Chris, I can see why you'd never forget the name. That stuff on page 4 is FRIGHTENING!! Scary as hell--had she said it to me in person, I'd have been reaching for my Mace, a gun, and calling both my dogs to "fuss." Some mental health professional invloved with her current case needs to see that. |

The absolute BEST THING about this thread is that now when you google Janice Bartmess, this is second on the list. ![]() That means people will be able to find out instantly what she is about if they try to search. |

| To whoever asked about old threads (hexe?), yes. Not only is VM doing everything she can w/them, I am going through old EMAILS from Janice and forwarding them to the authorities, as well. She sent me sometimes 5-10 in one day. |

| I belive it was stated here that Janice had a career at and retired from the Phone Company in SF. The phone company entrance exams are not easy. If she worked there 30 years or so, then IMO she was definetly intelligent and sane. |

| I have a friend in Australia who says she has been selling some pups with another guy form California or somewhere to Australia as well as some older dogs. Not sure who she was doing this with here in the states but she was sending sold DDR line dogs, or pups and frozen sperm there as well. He says he will try to find out who was helping her here in us. Still all of her supporters have not came out to apologize and ask for forgiveness form sock puppet, they owe him that much. |

| Intellect and sanity are not mutually exclusive. Lots of sociopaths and sociopaths are intelligent. In fact, you almost can't find a sociopath who isn't intelligent--it's what makes them so effective, as well as dangerous. Lots of nuts have high IQs. |

| Wrestleman, if you can find that, email or PM me or Vom Marischal. You don't have to publicize your sources. Any help is much appreciated! |

| Wrestle, weren't you "listening "? CHARACTER will out. And,it has yet again. :'( It is not gloating that anyone is doing, and no one is trying to make anyone feel bad. But, it is taking pleasure in seeing the vindication of Sock Puppet, Hodie, Jackie, Jim, Sueincc, Jenn and others, who were so viciously attacked and heaped with false accusations by the "Bartmess Defenders" on this board. It was, and is, clear that a lot of that support by "some" was simply the vile spewings of "some" on this board, because of their mindless enmity toward certain other individuals-- who just happended to point out Bartmess's actions. Those individuals who pointed out Bartmess's actions understood that mentalities of that type do not simply "make a mistake" that they "pay for" and that's it. The character behind Bartmess's actions was extant prior to the conviction and continued afterwards. Bartmess's complete refusal to accept any responsibilty for her action was a clear signal that the behavior would be (or was being) continued. Similarly, the character of those who took out after Sock Puppet et al hammer and tongs so viciously and nastily doesn't change; either. Hence the, at best, near-wholesale denial of their own statements in black and white (the ones that weren't deleted, anyway ). No one expects anyone to grovel. But, it isn't really shouldn't be too much to expect "some" to "woman up," acknowledge their conduct, and just maybe apologize to those they mistreated so much on this board. it should not be... but, I recognize those mentalities, too. So, I am neither surprised, nor disappointed. Character will out in dogs, as well as in people. |
