Need help to find out what this really is:
The only way I know how to describe this, the pup looks like it has been raped. And no she has not been….. The pup is 7 weeks old and looks like she is in heat. I mean open like in heat, but pink as can be. No pain, pees fine just open. The vet looked at her: about 7 different thing came out of his mouth, mostly wait and see. I will send pictures if this will help. I have been breeding for more than 20 years and have never seen anything like this before. If you think you know what this might be please e-mail me. Thanks

The only thing I can think of is infection - maybe inflammation from the grass, wetness, or could it be an inverted vulva?  Or.... something making it inflamed - I'd have the urine checked, temperature of the pup and maybe even culture to check for infection.  bloodwork?

Possible vaginal prolapse. Inner lining will pertrude outwards making it look swollen and pinkish. Has to do with musculatur and ligaments holding the precious part thightly in place. It could be a congenital defect or just a really bad luxation of the ligaments and muscles. If its not a defect, it might thighten up. However, there is always a higher chance of it reoccuring during heat cycles or hard stools to push out.

The pups temp is normal; the vet said no infection was present with the swab he took. We have had no rain, wet grass is out.
If it was a prolapsed, It would be painful when she pee or not? I would think she would lick it a lot, she does not. She acts like the other pups plays runs no pain. Just at wits ends not knowing what this is.

See a reproductive specialist for your pup,  I am also thinking prolapse or maybe hermaphrodite.
Always,

vet is stumped and there is obviously something wrong - take pup to another vet - maybe a repro specialist this time.

I second taking her to a reproductive specialist. She might be an intersex individual?

Would also think towards a possible Hermaphrodite... though nowhere's near a common issue in GSD's, I've seen several in English Cockers, and the repro areas are odd lookinig.

Thanks all for your input. I will take my vet suggestion and do a wait and see. He saw her again today, temp ok and took another culture. The pup is in no pain and more playful than the other pups in the litter. Not afraid of anything, I will keep the board posted.
Thanks
