| I've been in touch with a few GSD breeders in the north east area. Some have stood out more than others. I did have my heart set on one breeder but once i started asking health test questions she got a bit bitchy and stated "Health tests are a pile of sh**" So sadly she was written off my list. I dont want to list the kennels i have been intouch with cause i have picked up easiliy that someone will make allegations against that kennel for no reason but i am going to ask you all if you can recommend a kennel. . At this moment in time i dont have a look am strictly looking for a health and temperment. The looks will come second. I do like the long coats and all range of colours but i would prefer a healthy pup than a good looking dog any day! |

| Are you really looking for a breeder or hoping to start another thread where breeders can be slated.I have just looked at some of your replies on other posts and you have an awful lot to say. I would advise if you want to know who the disreputable breeders are then you ask that it is done privately through PM and not on an open forum, dont know about everyone else on here but i for one have had enough of listening to people bash on about other breeders this week |

| Peggy,so have i.Gaz,all i can suggest is that yu either ring up the kc for a list of Accredited breeders in that area,but you,re best bet is to ask them for the no.of Shelia Rankin who is the secretary of the gsd breed council.she will be able to supply yu with names and ph.nos.of breeders in your area who DO THE RELEVANT HEALTH TESTS.will be mostly show line kennels and yes yu will be more than likely able to get a long coat but i doubt if a non standard colour would crop up,as yu know they would only crop up in these litters very very occasionally.there are quite a few i would recommend in the north east.go and visit loads of litters and ask loads of questions and be prepared to be given a grilling.good luck with your search and let us know when yu get your pup and piccies please.Carole S. |

| I would suggest that you google breeders in the area you are looking at, and look at their websites. If they list the dogs results of dogs health tests and pedigree, it's a good start. It will also tell you whether or not they produce the type of dog (look)that you are looking for. You can double check their health results on the KC website to be doubly sure. If it were me, I would also be looking for elbows having been tested too, although not all breeders are doing this yet. But that is my personal choice. THEN you can to contact any you are interested in and ask lots of questions about health testing, temperament etc. As Carole says, you should then ask if you can visit and see the dogs that they have - and you can get a feel for the temperament and character. Again, as Carole says, expect a grilling - it is a two way thing. If you don't understand the pedigree of a dog you really like, ask someone like Chris Hazell or Wildmoor to look at it for you. That is real belt and braces approach. Any responses like the one you have already had is the run a mile signal! |

| @ Georgedavino I don't think anyone can take the risk of recommending a breeder. If you subsequently encountered a problem, there is the risk that you would blame whoever recommended them, or accuse someone of having a personal interest in making a recommendation. It is up to you to do the 'leg-work' with hopefully, some useful tips as to what to look for. |

I mean they were just recomending, it would be up to me to then ask the important questions and for me to personally decided to buy from a breeder but i see where your coming from. I dont know how to delete it sadly but thanks for all the comments guys even the one which accused me of being nothing more than a stirrer and a liar.... |

| Hi Georgidavino. I can tell you for certain that there are excellent breeders in the North East, I could name a good handful that I would buy a puppy from with no qualms. However, it is so easy to find them too if you are switched on, which it seems you are. I. Location - you have decided which location you are looking in. 2. Ask regarding Health Checks - also see the paperwork to prove it. 3. Let them know what you are looking for and what type of home you are offerring. 4. Ask for a visit to them, and be prepared to be asked all sorts of questions if the breeder isnt desperate to sell 5. Ask why they bred the litter - do they show, work their dogs, both or just sit and sell puppies - steer clear of the latter. 6. Goes without saying, see mum. When people come to me for a puppy, its a two way gesture - they are not automatically going to get a puppy until we have met, and I like what they are also offering my puppy, and I find that they are prepared to keep in touch if necessary and to give their vet a letter from me which gives the vet the overall right to contact me in the future if he feels that the puppy has any hereditory fauts. This for me is the biggy - its stops the other thread on this board ever happening where a breeder is trying to get information from a vet regarding a puppy bought. I dont think thats too hard, and I dont think that I have told you anything that you perhaps didnt alaredy know. I wouldnt name on here breeders that I thought were excellent, because the simple reason is that there might be others that I dont know, that are excellent, and I would be missing them out. However, if you have anyone in mind, I will give you my honest opinion, or find some-one that can, if you pm me Mo. |

Maybe the reason you won't recommend a breeder because of all the health problems associated with your dysplastic, roach backed abombanation's. To the OP, I'm sorry that I can't point you in the right direction. However, if you were looking for a solid dog in North America, I would be more than happy to recommend a couple of good kennels. The first thing I would do is burn KC list, then start doing some google searches. Good luck, I hope everything works out for you. |

There are a lot of people that dont use this forum because of the likes of your comments as above - very aggressive, pointed and unpleasant added to a thread that wasnt particularly bad before your addition.. | Penny, A lot of people have a hard time hearing the truth I guess? There is a PM function and if some one has a good breeder in mind they should use it. I figure it's better than sending the guy out on his own to find some shit breeder. There are plenty out there that talk a good game and present them selves professionally, but in the end they're still selling garbage. I will try to be a little more PC in the future.lol. |

I agree that there are people out there that talk the talk, but dont walk the walk when it comes to selling puppies - thats for sure, but I expect you will find that this lady is inundated with pm`s about certain people that we find are to be recommended. I just fell in to the fact though that she is in the USA !! - perhaps I should read previous posts more often before assuming that there is only one North East and ts in England ha ha |

I WOULD JUST LIKE TO STATE THAT IF SOMEONE IS CONSIDERING RECOMENDING SOMEONE THEN CAN THEY SEND IT IN A "PM" DONT POST IT ON HERE AS HAS BEEN STATED IN SO MANY WORDS, THE BREEDER YOUR RECOMENDING COULD BE TARGETED BY PEOPLE WITH INTENTIONS OF MAKING THEMSELVES SOUND GOOD. |

| Mo, I too read it to be NE England. Felloffher - regardless of the fact we have the COUNTRY wrong, no-one was sending this guy off to any *shit* breeder as you put it. He was given advice on what to look for, and Mo is right, it didn't take a rocket scientiest to work out my reasons for saying that. Nobody was saying that there weren't good breeders out there. His question should really have been 'what should I look for in a good breeder'. I think he was given that answer. I am also sorry to say that, should anything go wrong following a recommendation it is very often the person that was trying to help that gets shot down - some people are like that, it's just the way life is. Perhaps as you are in the USA You can make a recommendation and help the guy out. |

I AM IN THE NORTH EAST OF ENGLAND  Sorry for the confusion but i have put it in the title haha but never mind all advice has been taken and trust me am not jumping in the deep end just yet. As much as i would like to live in America i'll stick to the unpredictable weather of the UK and i'll keep my Queen even if she is a little outdated like half of the buildings in this country lol |

I like the look of them Zac but i'll admit but not so much anymore. I wouldnt turn one away though lol Like i said looks are now second priority for me till i find my ideal breeder that does all the right health checks. |
