The GSD Foundation!

All this non sense and commotion and fighting about the brindle shepherd is driving me nuts. I decided to pull out the good ole GSD Bible, The German Shepherd Dog written by V.Stephanitz in 1925. The God of our beloved GSDs. I was reading and a few people that know EVERYTHING there is to know say that there has NEVER been a pure brindle GSD. Ha, Beowulf-Sonnenberg. He was pure. If he wasnt then none of our beloved shepherds are pure because most go back to him and if not him back to the foundation he comes from. Horand von Grafrath was not the first GSD he was the first registered GSD. He is also Beouwulf-Sonnenberg's Sire. Horand von Grafath also known as Hektor-Linksrhein's pedigree is completed. After he was registered they back registered his foundation. Beowulf was a brindle Look at his legs good. Also PLEASE READ THE COMMENTS on his pedigree page! Thanks.

Do you have a brindle GSD or something ? Can you point out a brindle GSD in the last 50 years ?
by RutavehausKFK on 14 July 2010 - 06:17
No I do not have a brindle GSD. This was made because it was being said that there was never ever a pure bred GSD that was brindle thats why the post was made. This is well beyond 50 yrs but it also is part of the foundation to what we have now. Whichs shows that it IS possible to get a throwback pup that is brindle. Not very likely BUT possible.

I wonder what happened to that color ?

Short of a spontenous mutation along the lines of the "panda" genetics [assuming that's actually what occured there], I doubt we'll ever see brindle again.
The genes seem extinct. Ah, the joys of selectively eliminating a color, and its corresponding genetic diversity, from the gene pool.

How true, and how shortsighted we STILL are.
