Black and tan female mated to Black male...what colour will the pups be? by frankow on 01 July 2010 - 20:48 |
| We've never used a black male with a b/t female before, and are just so excited to see how the pups will look!Does anyone know what colours can be expected? Frank |

| Black and Tans...unless the black and tan carries the black gene. |

| Black and tans and bi's my pups mother was black and tan and his father is black..He was bred to a blk and red and got 2 blk/red and 2 bi's.... |
by CMills on 02 July 2010 - 05:51 |
| They will all be dark black and tans unless the black/tan dam carries the black recessive gene. |
by AmbiiGSD on 02 July 2010 - 07:05 |
| You won't get Bi-colours if the Black and Tan is a saddle you'll get blanket backs, you 'Might' get Bi-colours if your black and tan is a blanket back and has bi-colour behind it close up. . |

| The mother of my pup was a blanket back and her mom was a bi color...you are correct there... |

| Thanx for the response you guys,it was helpful! |

| Unless the black male is a dominant then ALL puppies will be black regardless of what is in the Dams line. |

| well miracles can happen, so they say.... |

I have a bitch that had a black sire and a black and tan saddle dam. Ambi is right....she is a blanket back. Her litter was all blanket back with one B&T saddle. |

| blanket-back black/tans, and some will be solid black ONLY IF the dam has a black recessive - no black recessive, no black puppies. But all should be "darker" or have more black coverage since all puppies will carry black recessive, from dad. molly |

| sorry if this sounds snarky (which it wil)--but if you don't know anything about genetics, why the heck are you breeding????? and why ask the question AFTER the breeding is done (t least it sounds like it's a done deal from your OP)?? |
by frankow on 04 July 2010 - 18:14 |
| Chuckie I'm partner to a breeder(keeper). No offence taken with regards, your post.I'm very knowledgeable when it comes to genetics.I enjoy the different sites and threads here, and the different answers people give.I am just so surprised by some of the answers people actually give on a specific topic.By now you should know...don't always believe everything you read!...Regards! Frank |

| Frankow.....Whoa! now there partner! your post was 'darn' helpful there......me thinks not! I think if you are so knowledgeable then maybe divert some of your extensive knowledge to us mere mortals please as your statement was very deep and basically anyone could have written. FRANK |

| trotters123 Thanx for your input, although I don't know if it was useful either...I just wish we could stick to "Dogs" for now,and as it suggests, some of 'us mere mortals' seem to know it all,but thats ok...it makes the world go round--We have 'your type'at my club too,we basically just ignore them.I sometimes sit here and read how people go at each other, and attack and pass remarks, and then I wonder, Why they do that!Your post dated 02/07,read it again and see what I meant...,but thats 'ok' too,we all make mistakes...nobody's perfect-Let us not be ashamed to learn. Will let you know the colours when the pups are born on 23/07.---Enjoy your dogs! |

| I agree with frankow. Posting and asking questions doesn't mean the poster doesn't know or have the knowledge to the answer, but just asking for opinions from others. In other words, just wondering what other people think... There is nothing wrong with that.... As I posted earlier, Everyone has a right to an opinion and the right to express it. That understood, no person's opinion is right or wrong. ITS JUST AN OPINION.. and everyone is entitled to one, and entitled to express it... Now if we could all just comprehend this and respect other's opinions as we want others to respect our own, there wouldn't be so much bickering on here... and we could all get along and educated each other with differing opinions. Maybe that would open up narrow minded people to other views, and possibilities... Bottom line::::No one opinion is right or wrong...ITS JUST AN OPINION, nothing more.... JMHO Now lets get back to the original post.....Didn't mean to hi-jack the thread... Just had to state my opinion!!!! |
