| What's the best way to go? For the dog, not so concerned about price if it help will be saving it in vet bills anyway |

| just a variety of meats, some non-weight bearing bone, some organ, a little fat, a few eggs, maybe a bit of yogurt now and then...hey if you can find organic meats or game, that is best, but really, any grocery store meat is better than kibble. Well, that's my opinion. I get meats from an Asian market for an average of about 40 cents a pound, mostly chicken, pork, and beef, but I buy turkeys and whatever else I can get my hands on. Evil bitch that I am, I once gunned it into a flock of wild turkeys crossing a country lane...dogfood on the hoof. Shot a wild boar on a friend's ranch. Rabbits are good, and squirrels if you can shoot. My evil girl kills a goat every chance she gets, which is not much any more. Ooooh that PETA character will be sending me some hate mail! If you have access to a ranch auction and don't mind killing things, you can get injured animals for pennies on the dollar. And to think I'm a vegetarian. All this dead animal stuff is dog food, far as I'm concerned. |

| Well Vom that is your opinionn and your entitled to it. Going to the Asian Market is commercial food NO? Or do they grow and slaughter their organic animals in the back of the shop for you? Just curious how the quality would be controlled. Avery - We did a lot of research and chose what works for our dogs and our customers end of story. It works for us and most of our customers come to us after watching the dogs work etc... So we were really not sold on anything we purchase after we have done research and because I cant kill my own home grown animals I rely on others. I prefer small local vendors. You need to to research and decide what works for you how many dogs are you feeding? When it was just our 5 we would buy 20lb buckets of ground beef with organs and bones all ground in. It was a little messy but it worked and they loved it. I know someone that grows there own Rabbits and ducks to feed to their Malis and GSDS she has the time and space and it works for her. And if anyone sold me on a program she did it made sense everything she feed them prior to feeding them to her dogs was planned out and worked. Sadly dont have the time or space for it. I suggest everyone do their research because HUMAN GRADE and CANINE GRADE MEATS are different for specific reasons. I would not suggest buying injured or sick animals to slaughter because they are cheap but thats up to you. Good luck.... |

| Avery Hill Kennels - since it's a bulldog, could it be canine acne? For our raw meats and such, we get it from a local butcher/processor. We know where the cows and chicken come from...(from pasture to packaging.) It's also less expensive as some of the organs and meats we are GIVEN as he does not sell them in his little shop :) |

Well, frankly, I don't know why you would think an Asian market would be less quality than any garden variety white people's market. <sarcasm> I think I said pretty clearly that organic would be best, but that I don't always have access to it. The good thing about ASIAN markets is that they have better VARIETY of meats and cuts, often cheaper cuts. Also, the stuff that doesn't sell is saved for me in the freezer. |

| I feed raw,whole prey model when I can,,and being I am in MN,,thats like 5 months of the year..there is nothing wrong with injured animals,,as long as the owners havent pumped them full of drugs first..I have several farms I work with where I get stillborn calves,lambs,goats and pigs..I also get injured animals from them,like to lame to be shipped,and I get all these for free except cattle,they can always be hauled in to the local butcher for hamburger,so these I have to pay a small amount for,usually around 10 cents/lb live..I also get road kill deer,all it takes is a call to the highway patrol to get a tag for it and they let you take them..I also raise chickens,turkeys,rabbits and pheasants for us and the dogs. |

| VonWal my thoughts on this was I read once that if human get acne around mouth they are having a food allergies so I was wondering the same thing if it was all food correlated. I have read on other sites that someone had a bulldog and changed to raw and helped with health issues. Thanks to any and every one with suggestion |

| Avery : Take note that feeding a dog out of plastic bowls and some composites will also cause canine acne. I had a Doberman Pinscher who used to get canine acne. She had it when I got her from her breeder (retired breeding dog.) I switched her to metal bowls that I cleaned after each feeding, etc. and her acne stopped. On the other side of not eating chicken, I think you've gotten some great ideas :) |

| VonWal, yes that is exactly what my vet ask me I feed all of my dogs out of stainless steel and are picked up after every feeding and washed. I can bee a bit of a germ a phobie LOL |
