Well my poor puppy is going through a long germany through 1/2 of germany by car and then a good 8 hour flight to the United States where it will be entering a great new home. When he gets home I'll let him adjust a bit, give him some food and shelter and then I'll take a few photo's and post them on the website. I'm so excited right now! Dirk from Osterberger Land is the Breeder so I will be doing an indepth review about him after I recieve the puppy. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that Dirk gave me a great puppy. Wish me luck!

:( the puppy wont arrive today, there was a snow storm last night in germany and there were traffic delays. The puppy never made it to the airport in time. It is now being held at Gradlyn Kennels for the time being until tommorow. So now the puppy will be arriving tommorow during the day. Another day of waiting!

It can be so frustrating waiting on an import! I went through it a year ago and now will be in a month or so (waiting for bitch to be bred).

I hope all goes well tomorrow and that there are no more delays. What airport is the puppy coming to?

There's some very bad winter weather in Germany. Since the puppy is overnighting at Gradlyn Kennels the breeders did manage to drive him to near the airport, anyway, a 4 hour drive under good road conditions. He'll be well cared for by Gradlyn.

When you do finally get him, your first priority needs to be to find a spot where he can pee. That'll be his first priority, at any rate  :)  A good opportunity for you to practice the 'hurry up' command.

Give him bottled water as soon as you can. He'll be a little dehydrated from the compressed and recycled air in the plane - and the long time without water, of course. Go easy with food. In fact, were it my pup, I'd go with rice boiled in low salt/salt-free chicken broth served really wet and soupy for the first few days. You can add some pieces of boiled chicken breast if you want.

Then you can start adding whatever you've decided to feed him in small quantities over a period of several days. Give him four small meals a day for a month or more, it's so much easier on his stomach.

Your excitement is obvious and well justified. Best of luck with the little guy. What's his name?

I'm sure you're on the edge of your seat!  Hope he jumps out of that crate and right into your waiting arms.  Please do get those pics on here ASAP and yes, what name did you decide on?  Best of luck, nice to see how excited you are!

Hi,

I got one from Germany in December.

I gave her a bath when we got home with her.

It was a riot when she arrived, tons of fun.

I had to sign papers from the Dept of Health. (puppy quarantine)

I am sure you will be having fun!

The minutes are passssssinnng sooooooo slowwwwwwww. I actually had a bad dream yesterday that I received a Siberian Husky and the breeder was tryingt to explain to me thats a german sheperd (woke up with a lil bit of a sweat lol). I'm finishing up work and shooting down to the airport to pick up the pup. Thank you for all the insightful information, I hope I find a nice fire hydrant for the puppy to pee on at newark airport :). I am a dog lover and also a car lover and this guy will be jumping into my sports car so I'll make sure he's going to be relieved! I'm still having a hard time finding the Cargo Section at Newark Airport. Has anyone had any experiance picking up a dog from there?

Sports car??? You aren't going to use a crate?  Better take lots of towels and blanket or two to cover those seats.  After being cooped up all this time the poor pup no doubt needs a bath after lying in it's own waste.  Keep that in mind so that you are not surprised by a stinky pup!  I hope you will have someone with you to hold a wiggley pup.  Let us know how it goes and post pics!!

If you google Newark cargo area, it will show you a map and give you the option to type in your location to get directions. It also gives an address and phone number. Hope this helps.

LMAO!  I'll be glad when you get your pup just so that you'll calm the heck down!

Like the others said, you might want to take some towels with you...he'll probably stink.  The only dog I ever imported was an adult and she flew with me...no mess in the crate.

LMAO!!! That dream was too funny!!!! You poor thing... I always have those strange dreams right before I go to pick up a dog from the airport.
Yes you are going to have a VERY stinky puppy like Deb said... With my first import I though I was going to hold him while my husband drove the two hours home.. I was gagging so much after the first 15 minutes he went right back in the crate with some clean towels... And I'll be doing the same thing Sunday night :-/

He arrived today! He's is just amazing. The dog hasn't even barked one time, he just follows me around. He hops like a cat and has huge paws which he doesn't know how to use yet. The puppy already took care of business outside I then praised him properly. He's sleeping on my brothers lap right now. I just have one question, the tip of his ear is bent backwards. He is def very young, his teeth are still tiny. I have a question he seems to be crying in the cage though, I am just ignoring him until he settles down.
