I am starting to "roadwork" my boy (9mos) and want to know if anyone has any suggestions for surface type such as on sidewalk or run my bike on the sidewalk with him on the grass next to me.  What is the best way to get him to extend out and build up those muscles.  He runs all the time with my other dog in a fenced yard.

thanks

Keep hard surfaces to a minimum.
Rough terrain, hills and hollows is a good workout also.
I sprint mine sometimes,  Have them sit and stay, mine I will down, then walk out, I go 200 yards or so.  Then give the come command and let them run full out.   killing two birds with one stone.
Swimming is another good all round workout.
I don't do bikes because mine are not allowed in the road.  Just my particular circumstances.
9 mos.  is young don't over do it.

9 months is too young for roadwork for a GSD.  Running loose all the time in a fenced yard is totally different than roadwork.

TM is right that swimming is good exercise that's easy on the joints, but roadwork?  What's the rush?

I don't bike with a dog until they are at least one year old, and then it's minimal, like once around the block
at a slow pace.......

Swimming is the best thing to build stamina, for humans & canines!
