Shelley, I'm not sure how AKC would handle that situation, I suspect it would be a lot more difficult for Brady if that were the case and he may never get his dog registered unless the SV  steps in.  My experiences have only been with AKC registerable dogs. If that is the case and the papers are not available and Brady wants to do some with the pup at an AKC event, he can apply for a ILP number.
