I should add that I use A.K.C. litter registration and the next time I have a litter of puppies (rare at my place) that I will register all of the puppies in my name before they are sold and leave it to the new owner to transfer the registration. At least that way I know it was done, as nearly every puppy I sold over the years went to a pet/companion home.
