THE POLITICS AT THE 2011 NASS by MARKOPOLO on 25 October 2011 - 01:00 |
| I am stunned to see a post about how a small breeder can succeed at the NASS ! In my 9 years as a member of the WDA I have never seen a more CORRUPT ,POLITICALLY DRIVEN RESULT ! For those of you who choose to ignore what happened in Virginia specifically to the "small breeders" or those who simply bought a titled female or male who had previous success in Germany or elsewhere and wanted to compete you were given a clear sign - DONT BOTHER ! Sure they let a small breeder or 2 win in the 3-6 or 6-9 mos class, but what took place in Virginia is a SAD DAY for the WDA. The first example would be the Working Class Males Protection Service and it did not take long to see the kind of BS that would stain the show and the organization that let it happen with a wink and a nod , the first dog that did bitework VA-12 Harry was effectively given a pass when to the surprise of many he received no stick hit, he as well as others in the VA group received the same ( nothing) while 2 dogs suffered from severe hits and had to drop out. Also i thought the front half of the exercise was fuss to the blind but this year should have been referred to as attack to the blind. Before going further i would like to congratulate Jose Diaz and Tuareg for being named the Sieger, he earned it.For those of you who could not make it we should share the behind the scenes manuevering ( well it wasnt really behind the scenes) when i arrived to the show on Thursday there was a buzz about what was going to happen, a friend in Germany told me it would be next to impossible to acheive a VA rating in either class due to the OUTSIDE INFLUENCES of the power brokers ( NOTED SV JUDGES) who came i am sure not to see the NASS but to be seen by Herr Boesl and Herr Woerner and it certainly worked, remember both these vaunted Judges are KENNEL OWNERS themselves and in the game of you scratch my back i will scratch yours the loser will always be the Small breeder or the person who just enjoys competing.Still not coinvinced ? VA-2 & VA-3 ? Congratulations are very well deserved to Erin O'Shea and Zambo for a very good performance from both.Moving on when does SG-59 in BSZS translate to VA-5 ?when the Austrian Judge-Breeder comes with ,again i am sure to be seen. Congratulations to VA-6 & VA-7 John Henkel and Julie Martinez well deserved 2 very nice dogs out of there kennels. Question -when does a V-69 2010 BSZS and V-7 at USA Sieger Show turn into VA-8 ? Answer when the owner of that male BRINGS AN SV JUDGE WITH HIM AND ALSO CHANGES Co-OWNERSHIP OF THE MALE BETWEEN MAY 2011 AND OCTOBER 2011 TO THAT VERY SAME JUDGE.To VA-9 Larus and owner Larry congratulations.VA-10 Arak is a very nice male who is past his prime ,did a very mediocre bitework and did not move as well as some in the VETERANS CLASS. As for VA-11 HE IS A CLEARLY INFERIOR DOG WHO HAS NEVER HAD ANY SUCCESS ON ANY LEVEL - CHECK THE SHOW RECORD-he as well as the aforementioned VA-12 are promoted by a VERY SLICK POWERBROKER WHO CONTROLS SO MUCH OF WHAT HAPPENS IN "OUR NATIONAL SHOWS" THAT HE SHOULD BE CALLED THE GODFATHER OF THE BREED IN THE USA. GOOD LUCK YOU SMALL BREEDERS BECAUSE YOU ARE GOING TO NEED IT!!!!!!!! |

| I agree completely Marko! I was an observer at the show. I find that the winners of classes magically have German Handlers who show in Germany regularly..interesting how they always make top placings no matter the type of dog they handle. Politics influenced that whole show for both good and bad placing, and WDA members were favorited. I know many of Kennels upset with placement because of politics. This was not a show for small time breeders. the examples given by the other poster was saying small Kennels but small or not the dogs they had came from large well known kennels. Very sad weekend for the breed. Is this what my children have to look forward to? Fear biting, politic run breed clubs? We won't have a German shepherd if this continues much longer. I just wish people would take a stand and no longer enter dogs for better good. |

Many people already believe show breeders have destroyed the GSD. Is there really anymore damage that can be done considering these dogs are already a joke? |
by Keith Grossman on 25 October 2011 - 01:56 |
This isn't a topic about show vs. working lines so unless you were there and have any idea what the OP is talking about, how about you leave this conversation to the adults. |
by sidhimelkel on 25 October 2011 - 02:00 |
| There's politics at every show. Unless you plan on sleeping with the judges, the results aren't going to be altering anytime soon. I think it's BS, but so do alot of others. |
by Felloffher on 25 October 2011 - 02:03 |
| Keith, I didn't make it about show vs work. Marko's post clearly shows how sophisticated the show crowd is and how much they care for the GSD. In the future I will ask you before I post. Seriously if you like I can PM you. |

| Too bad the dogs can't be shown as just a number, then the actual pedigree revealed after judgement... |

| KARYNGSD you make a very valid point ,in most of the classes the SAME GERMAN HANDLERS WERE IN THE TOP 5 ,now i must say they are very talented but when it is a pre-requisite to a top 5 finish it is very sad. Please if someone who attended this years NASS has a different version of the events or if anything i said was not the absolute truth please post. Also there were alot of videos being taken if what i said is inaccurate about several of the "VA-Males " not receiving ANY STICK HITS PLEASE POST THEM AND I WILL MAKE A FULL APOLOGY,i would like to stress i DID NOT SHOW ANY DOGS IN THE WORKING CLASS HOWEVER IF SOMEONE DOES NOT STOP THIS RAMPANT CHEATING IN THE NAME OF THE ALMIGHTY $$$$$ THE GERMAN SHEPHERD BREED IS DOOMED IN THE US. One last observation is that the Judges did a terrible job in the larger classes ,they paid no attention to the back half once the class started. To answer the question one pm messager asked -no i did not attend the WDA Meeting. |

| Shouldnt males that go VA at least have to have a progeny group? Like someone said, how can a dog go from V-6 to VA3 (just an example, no such dog in mind) without showing what they can produce. |
by leoetta on 25 October 2011 - 07:00 |
| Marko, As a competitor at the NASS this past weekend I will just say it will be interesting to watch all the videos once they post. I believe that there will always be politics of course, and for those that want to play that way that is their issue, I just wish that the rules would be followed in the protection work at the very least to start with, that is all I ask, then the truly worthy dogs that day would be in the ring the next day, those that display what they are expected too as a titled GSD. I must say though that I am extremely proud of both of my dogs I brought to the NASS, I have to say I was surprised yet thrilled at the SG7 placing of my female I bred, Malibu von der Westkuste, in the 12-18 month females class. It was a very nice class and I was hoping and praying to be somewhere in the middle, I mean I love my dog and I know she is a really nice female, but I know how the game goes, so to end up in the top ten was amazing and I am so happy, plus she just turned 12 months a couple of weeks ago. This is the first dog I've shown at a sieger show from my own breeding so needless to say we are on cloud nine :) And of course I am so proud of our working male Zamp von der Urbecke for his V6 placing. We placed V9 last year and without having a progeny group I was only hoping to at least stay where we were last year or move up a couple of placings, and of course with so many existing VA dogs entered in the show I knew it would be tough, but we accomplished our goal, just not our dream, but I know what my dog is and he gets to come home with me at the end of the day and everyone that meets him falls in love with him and I wouldn't trade Zamp for any one of the dogs that were placed in front of him this year or last, he is mine forever and that's what matters most to me. |

| Leoetta, thanks for sharing your opinion and thank you for your honesty, congratulations for both your male and female, I think a female from your own breeding getting such a recognition at top competition is something any breeder would be very proud of and would place a heavy responsibility to maintain and move forward with his/her distinguished breedings. Good luck and once again congratulations and well done. Ibrahim |

| Marko this is not News, LOL, I just laugh at everything and tease around, but 40% of dog class earns a VA title? 12 VA in the males? some Kim Kimbo dog with the most horrible front, rear, etc...plus many more, I dont live in USA anymore so I look at pictures alot. But hey, congrats to the ones that deserved it! some very beautiful dogs in it! Oh dont forget the 50% of females Earned the VA title, Maybe we start to see 55 VA dogs in Germany! |

I think I'll just stay out of this fray... |

What German judges screwing people...Say it isn,t so!!!!!! I thought the Germans were beyond reproach. Money-Politics- have and will continue to ruin this breed. |

money, politics and the apologists! |
by VKGSDs on 25 October 2011 - 16:48 |
| "Too bad the dogs can't be shown as just a number, then the actual pedigree revealed after judgement..." It's too easy to figure out. You recognize the handler, the person calling the dog, if not the dog himself. Plus ideally the VA dogs are being judged on their progeny. Many judges like to see a dog mutliple times before they will award a high placement. On the flip side, I believe for large AKC shows like what you see on TV the BIS judge does not "know" the dogs, but everyone KNOWS the dogs, I mean you can tell which dog is which because they are so heavily campaigned leading up to those shows. |

| VA-Harry della Real Favorita - stick hits on the attack out of blind. Yes, the dog received stick hits on both the attack out of blind and the courage test; I have photos of the routine. Yes, I am the owner of the dog. Yes, I purchased the dog right before the deadline of the Sieger Show. Yes, I am a small breeder/exhibitor who loves her dogs. Yes, the dog has super drives. Yes, the dog has a beautiful show record in Europe and he will continue to be promoted here in the USA. |

| Looks like Marko owes someone an apology. |
by Bob McKown on 25 October 2011 - 20:08 |
I,d like to see video,s of the Attack on the handler and courage test,s from this show. In all honesty the photo does not show a stick hit it shows a rebound of movement of a flexible stick. Again I,d like to see video and hear it also a good stick hit can been heard better then seen. |
by MARKOPOLO on 25 October 2011 - 20:21 |
| Keith Grossman - NO I DO NOT OWE CESSNA AN APOLOGY BECAUSE I AS SO MANY OTHERS WATCHED AS HARRY DID NOT RECEIVE A SINGLE STICK HIT AND IT WAS THE TALK OF MANY ! SOMEONE PLEASE POST A PICTURE OR VIDEO OF THE FRONT HALF PROTECTION SERVICE FOR ALL TO SEE ! You are a small breeder ? Harry show record includes an SG-32 in a Landesgruppen Show coincidently NASS V-20 Armani v Finkenweg was SG-11 in same show in another show Harry was SG-6 and NASS V-11 Camillo v Pallas Athene was SG-3 the difference i can only guess is there owners did not buy there dogs from the POLITICALLY CONNECTED ! WHAT IS THE REASON FOR YOUR HARRY's "BEAUTIFUL SHOW RECORD in Europe" including many K or EZ's when he would need to prove his BITEWORK OR HIS " SUPER DRIVE" !!!! His show record is MEDIOCRE it is his IMPORTER-BROKER WHO IS OUTSTANDING AT DELIVERING RATINGS THAT THE DOGS IN MOST CASES DO NOT DESERVE ! SO I AM SORRY THAT THE TRUTH HURTS WOULD YOU LIKE MORE EXAMPLES? |
