My female carries her puppies around alot, moves them all over the place, she is the only female about at my place no others to bother her, so why does she do this, she also hides them under news paper before she comes to eat!

She is trying to split her litter that maybe too much for her... how many pups.??? She will try to nurse a set one at a time... but if she ignores her pups... try to either get a foster mother or bottle feed and make sure the bitch is well fed and with plenty of water or warm soup... Good luck on the litter...

No she doesn't split the litter she moves the whole lot with her, i have a litter of 7 they are 2 weeks old and she feeds them very well, she as plenty of water all the time, and eats real well, she just seems to think that someone will steal them, that's the impression she gives me.

That is why she should be in a birthing box, safe and large and with an entry that only she can leave when you let her out...very large with lights and place for either installed heat lamp and wire side on either both ends or in the front or top...Most german shepherd bitches search before birthing a safe , quiet, dark place and will dig a hole in the worst place possible, under a bldg, if you let them. Its their nature to move the nest and she evidently thinks something is not quite right.....If she is in a birthing box, closed in, well lined with a cleanable floor, with papers , to remove every four hours or so, and she is put in this box 2 weeks before birthing , she would be fine...still if you leave the door open or unlocked,,,she will tote them off somewhere else...Ive watched at least 8 females do the same thing...I dont allow it....You can lose a pup that way,,,If they are secure in a/c in a huge box with puppy rails and proper care, the pups are safe and mom is more content....When the pups start pooping and peeing , a lot , and eating at three weeks old...I transfer them for short hours , while mom goes out for a break from them, onto wire cages built by a cage co here in Texas Then they are not in there own pee and it goes into a pan with papers and u pull out and clean up. I feed them and keep water for them in a crock bowl that will not turn over...of course they back up to it and poop in it , once or twice, and the get it dirty quickly.
Mom wants them back very quickly ....but I make her stay away so her milk comes bck as they keep her drained clip their nails so they wont scratch her all over...they get wild when uyou put them back in with her...then evidentually you wean them and on wire they stay cleaner.and can then go outside in play time in play pens......at night back to a/c and safety of their pens , a/c and music and food and no flies and no bug....I on hot days leave them most of the hot part in a/c Mom stays in birthing box and they can play in there with her and nurse only once a day .if she lets them....she will discipline them if its a no. I put water in the corner in a big crock bowl....some people have automatic waterers for the birthing box.....i dont...
