Thanks Cheryl!

And yes, it is a sebatious cyst. No surgery for now, because it was infected. Once the infection has been treated the vet will re-evaluate the need for removal. And yes, unfortunately it's not her first or only cyst. It is the first & only infection she's had in one of them, she's 7 & she's had these little nasties since her first heat, so we're guessing it's influenced hormonally. We've been dealing with them all along, & not having any difficulties, until now. You're 100% correct, they absolutely recur. Thanks for the how-to, but I'm going to let my vet deal with this one (I give my dogs their shots & treat minor stuff myself, but these days there are too many really funky bacteria around to takes chances once something's infected!)....she's really pretty awesome!

The vet examined Kali, shaved her tail at the spot, evacuated the cyst, did a quick microscopic smear to be sure there were no parasites involved, gave us antibiotics: all in all about 40 minutes of her time on a busy day....& charged us $39.50 (including the antibiotics!)
Sheri Lyn Newell, DVM practises for the good of the critters she treats, not for the almighty $$...& God bless her for her astute judgement & caring heart! I consider myself lucky to have her care for my dogs.

Again, thanks everyone for your replies! jackie harris

Libby also had one on her hip that she got to as well so I had that surgically removed.  Since her "tail" incident, she has not had any come back, so luckily no more coming home to blood everwhere.

Glad everything worked out.

Take care,

C
