Should I leave my male together constantly with my female while she is in heat ? The last time she was in heat they finally tied up and I thought for sure she’d be pregnant... but she wasn’t. So I’ve let them stay together almost constantly, and when I do separate them he loses his mind and hasn’t eaten in almost two days.
I sort of figured he’d eventually start eating when he gets hungry enough but other than that which I definitely don’t like, is there any harm in leaving them together?

I know you are serious but lets lighten up the problem a little. Yes something could happen but then in the wild did they go to other rooms for the night?

If he is not doing well apart what would happen if they were in crates next to each other where you could keep an eye on them. Would he settle then.

What day of her cycle is she on?

OTOH ... if you were not intending them to breed (and of course you won't be, at EVERY future season, will you ?), then he - and you - would just have to learn to deal with it. Unless you board him out with someone twice per year.

Starving himself for a couple of weeks won't kill him, and he won't let it get that far. Just make sure he has access to water, and is offered food regularly even if he only picks at it. (Try smaller amounts than you'd normally feed).

Western Rider's suggestion of giving them neighbouring crates might help - but do make sure these are STRONG crates !

Leaving them together when you do want them to mate is fine for the time being, but be prepared for her to turn on him and beat him up at some point, when she has had enough, and just wants to be left to settle to pregnancy & puppy rearing.Does not always happen but it might well do so.

NO bad idea; she will rip his face off eventually.

I had left them together in a 10x20 kennel, but I separated them this morning, moving forward I will keep them apart for about 4 hour intervals, then put them back together for 2-3 hours, then separate again for the night, but keep a watch on them while there together during the day.
My female is not annoyed in the least by him, she is definitely wanting it, full blown in heat for sure, Im sure that will change though.
I appreciate the advice, in all the years Ive had my dogs and worked dogs Ive never had any I wanted to mate with each other, like I said I had thought them getting tied after mating on her last heat cycle she would have for sure gotten pregnant, but she didn't. The 1st day she was with him was on the 21st and they were tied after he FINALLY figured out what he was doing, he's only 2 1/2 years old. she is 3 years old.
Good strong working lines, so Im hoping to get some good pups from them.
thanks again.

If I understood right you bred her on the 21rst day last time. It’s possible to still get pregnant but its a little late IMO. By the 21rst day she’s just about getting outta the season and ovulation has slowed..

No Al Bravo....she was bred by my male 3 days ago on May 21st, which was when she first allowed him and wanted him to mess with her, she’s still wanting him to breed her and he’s still trying but it’s RIDICULOUS because he doesn’t seem to be figuring this out the way I’d think he should, but he has been able through a LOT of effort and persistence on his part to make a tie twice so far.

This sounds like Murphy's Law for breeding...registered, health tested male and female, hips scored, temperaments tested, etc. etc. - expensive A.I. done - no litter, or small litter of 2-3 pups.

Neighbour's mutt jumps the fence, and is alone with female for 5 minutes: 10 puppies, GUARANTEED!!

Wishing you good luck with your breeding plans! Most males figure it out eventually, or the species would have died out long ago!

Some of them don't need any help: my NEUTERED male GSD had NO PROBLEMS tying with an in-heat female!!

She should be pregnant if not maybe male may need a sperm count or female a progesterone test to catch right at ovulation days. Good luck

Thanks Al Bravo.... I’ll know in about 30 days, I’ll take her into the vet and have her checked, she’s an EXTREMELY hard Czech female... very strong female...he’s a really nice Jinipo line male, not hard at all though... I’m hoping for some hard pups, 🙏 we will see... thanks again for y’all’s advice.
