I´ve been looking/changing emails with these kennels: Von Lord Fandor (the herding capabilities interests me), Von Der Bosebrucke, Vom Parchimer Land (Werner seems a nice guy at least from the emails i changed with him. He admits not always easy to find DDR dogs, ocasionally he breeds 100% DDR but many times other lines are selected even if maintaining a good portion of DDR blood), Vom Kabuschsee, Vom deutschen Rosenhof, vom gleisdreieck. Now it seems these are fairly known, some old, kennels. Some seem to have redirect their initial traning "philosophy"/purpose to a more modern sporty approach i believe. Anyway i intend to keep making contacts in order to pay a visit to them in the future.
Anyone want to comment about those kennels or suggest more options? I would look near me, but the choices seem scarce. Like Spain for instance. I´ve tried looking into working dog website to see if there is anything here in Portugal...

Kabuschsee has some interesting old lines not seen in the more common pedigrees. However They are UCI registered and not eligible to be registered with FCI unless somebody knows something I don't

I don't think I said the Dutch fry their dogs all the time, but it is not uncommon. They also use other severe forms of compulsion. I am talking about many KNPV handlers. Even though the e-collar is banned in Holland, that hasn't made any impact. If you want to see video of a dog you might want to buy, if they have a relationship with you, they will cover the e-collar in the video and not have the remote in plain site. They are very careful about what is released on video. If you don't have a good relationship, you will pay three times more for the dog.

@stormins whats all about FCI, UCI,...? I do not intend to participate in any show or competition. Seems all dogs here in Portugal are FCI recognized, no mention of UCI.
My question is: If i want to import a dog from germany to Portugal does it have to be FCI registered/recognized (to be recognized somehow) or is indifferent? Advantages or disadvantages? legalities? Could it be problematic in the future?
Is buying a dog UCI registered a bad sign? or it is just a counterculture/german thing, more or less like RSV2000 and SV but in a more broad way...

UCI multi breed registry established in W.Germany in 1978. do not recognized by FCI and affiliated with FCI the national registries in another countries. you won't be able to transfer pedigree, issued by UCI into database registry body, responsible to maintain such records in your home country.

vom Gleisdreieck did build it's international fame thanks to sport participation of their dog Lord back in 80's and still continued in sport field. if your interest aren't in sport, you may skip.

Vom Deutschen Rosenhof small not commercial kennel, dedicated to preservation and promotion of past bloodlines of former DDR. their dogs not bred for particular purpose (i.e. sport, herding, protection, etc.) but rather family type with emphasis on physical appearance, stable temperament with possibility for different uses according to each dog potential.

same (as above) could apply to vom Kabuschsee. Heike is a type of old school DDR breeder, who formed her perception of GSD breed back in 70s and remained faithful and loyal strong enough to place it above commercial advantages, where she definitely could prosper with her experience and skill of picking right mating in breeding.

thank you Valk. So with a UCI registry i can import but i will not be able to register/transfer it to the portuguese CPC (Portuguese Club of Caniculture that is affiliated to FCI)...
For me thats ok. Do you see any problem with this? Anything im not aware of legally? Can the local authorities or veterinaries if asked for the pedigree, for some reason im not aware, make any problem because the pedigree is not FCI /CPC (national) registered?

PS: Any experience with Vom Lord Fandor? Bosebrucke, Anhalter Hof?

by ValK on 13 January 2020 - 17:01

lack of registration (pedigree), recognized by FCI bring only disadvantage that those dogs cannot participate in organized by FCI/national breed club events, such like show, sport/other disciplines competition, official titling trials.
for commercial breeders obvious loss of potential earning due to inability to provide pups buyers with certificate by national breed club.
other than that mentioned, no any legal problems.

sorry, can't give you more than previously info about vom Lord Fandor.
vom Anhalter Hof registered back in 1972 in DDR but i'm not sure if they still in breeding today.
von der Bosebrucke is new (self-proclaimed DDR) kennel with interest in sport.

Ok. @ValK explain me one thing. I sometimes explore the SV-Doxs database when looking for dogs. Sometimes working-dog also.
They have things like Breeding Size value, HD breeding value, etc... Well i just have access to the free content maybe im missing other info. But anyway i see that some dogs have breeding values of 100 or near that value, both sire or dam or just one of them? is this bad? Does this give any important info from the parents to have in consideration when watching for a litter/puppy? I believe its more rare to find dogs with below 80 HD breeding value?
