Different goals, different training, no problem at all - the percentage of "police dogs" to " IPO dogs" ?
1: 1000 ? Even more? I don´t know.
Duke didn´t wake up one day and knew how to evaluate dogs. He trained, and he learned.

That´s what I try to tell people: Train and learn, not more, not less

Susie, not everyone who owns a dog has the desire nor capacity to train...so they send their dog to a trainer and pay to have it trained. I used to make a living, in my offseason from the road, since the 70s training dogs for people.
Pretty sure a person like duke, who had a desire to train and supply PSD and msd, spent the time as an apprentice or similar to learn how.

Susie, there are definitely more LE dogs in America than IPO dogs. I'm not saying that to put up one or the other, but to show the dynamics & value systems of our countries are different as you well know. That's why the validity of a system in Europe ( among other reasons ) does not translate to this country.
But we all agree that training is imperative for a working dog breeder.

by GSD911 on 28 April 2017 - 01:04

Meanwhile in the USA we kill 40,000 dogs a year in shelters while i was told in Germany they have empty shelters. You all tell me who's doing something wrong.
We're horrible in the USA at protecting our best friends. From the corrupt veterinary profession pumping our dogs full of meds, having no responsibility when they do anything wrong, to the collusion in veterinary boards who will never prosecute their own, to the laws that make our IPO3 KKL V rated dog as worthless in court as a lawn chair, we suck with animals.

There's a reason basically every breeder on this forum has imported stock they're breeding and even when they've been breeding for a decade are still purchasing dogs from Europe instead of being able to continue their own line with influence from various outside stud dogs. Funny how even those people are arguing against what training/titling does for the breed.

I'm looking at a breeding from the Netherlands right now, and also wanted to import a 3-3 Pilot linebreeding but not sure if that's going to happen.

Also, Vucan, Henrik Wolfsheim etc.

With all these untitled super proven lines in the in the US I am really confused the breeders are importing such large numbers of dogs from euro every year for the last 50+ years and increasing.

Why are the same breeders on this thread importing, you should be exporting, very confusing.

by duke1965 on 28 April 2017 - 04:04

susie, your 1-1000 numbers will be only good for germany, than also czech, slovak, belgium and holland have more sport than police dogs, the rest of the world is the other way around.

as long as people breed papers first, in whatever country in the world, they will not succeed on long term

by vk4gsd on 28 April 2017 - 04:04

The thread is not about "breeding papers first" whatever that means.

It is about the value of titling and breed surveying the breed.

Sheesh why a minority here can't think past their own vested interests and use everything as an excuse to defend and promote themselves until they can't think straight.

by duke1965 on 28 April 2017 - 05:04

if you dont know what it means, how can you say its not what this thread is about LOL
