Looks like a saddle back. What does the dog look like up close?

by beetree on 29 March 2017 - 20:03

I would say the dog is likely a patterned sable, which means the dark hairs seen within the saddle pattern are agouti colored (striped/banded), and not solid colored throughout the shaft.

Can you post more pics please, of the areas you think showing sable? Is the hair banded? Which colors? How much area is affected?

I'm looking again. The dog could be sable.

Edit: Corrected my error. I was outside before so I couldn't see the picture well enough.

Can you take a picture of the undercoat and maybe get a closeup of brushing against the coat? It would show whether or not the hair is banded.

As long as the OP doesn't confirm that the whole saddle area is banded black & tan, not individual black hair and tan hair strands interspersed, I'd say saddle with black loss.

This dog would have to be a saddle black and tan patterned dog.  Sable is dominant to the other patterns and to get a sable, one of the parents would have to be a sable.  In your case, your dog is a black and tan saddle patterned dog carrying the black gene.

Thumbs Up to that.

But, then you changed your post... One of the parents is a black sable.
