Dog managed to let herself out of a dog trailer that was traveling through the above mentioned areas.  For more photos/info, see here and here.

Any news if the dog was found?

Still missing, and still searching.

The Universe apparently thought it might be helpful if someone else's large sable female GSD showed up at this dog's owner's house, however. Athena's owner commented to the effect that taking in someone else's lost 100# sable GSD would be a small price to pay if it could somehow help bring Athena back home.

I wish I could help in some way. Unfortunately I'm out here in California. My heart goes out to the owner and family.
The hopeful news is that a dog was found alive and well after 9 days in the rubble of the Italian earthquake. Dogs can survive a long time on there own. Also, many have been found after days, weeks and months.

giebel, I know what you mean--like you, I'm not in the area the dog was lost [I'm on the East Coast]. The only way I can help is to try and get the word out far and wide, and to encourage others who know people living in that area to pass the info along to them and ask them to keep an eye out for this girl.

With the magnitude of that quake, and the aftershocks following it, every living being that's recovered safely is a reason for rejoicing.
