Congrats!!! They are great looking hips and elbows! May I ask, how was she raised? environment and exercise? They say that hips and elbows are not really genetic so I am extremely curious.
Excellent work on getting those hips and elbows so good!!!!

On my part, they had faux sheepskin pads in the whelping box, on top of pvc lined green whelping mats. At around 5 weeks old they were moved to a 10x15 kennel with a 5x5 indoor kennel access. I side were whelping mats, towels and the pads. Outside kennel is on top of decking. Puppies were out of the kennels running in grass many times a day. Puppies were weaned onto a combo of raw, nupro silver and pro plan performance. Puppies were worked with a flirt pole 1x day.

Mom was fed raw and kibble with nupro silver while in whelp.

That's basically how it goes with any of my litters.

Never mind - didn't see you'd answered my question in your post already! Guess brain isn't fully caffeinated yet!

Eska is doing fine, and she definitely has an off switch, as I have to be away from the house at least 8 hours every weekday.

My main problem is finding the time to train. My job is physically demanding and I work some very long days - for instance, Wednesday is training day, and this Wednesday, I was forced to stay late at work. After 9 hours on me feet, I was too tired and footsore to do anything with my dogs.  What Smile We've had some brutally hot weather this summer, too, and that hasn't helped either - temps in the 90's for entire weeks.

Yeah, and getting older doesn't help, either... Sad Smile

Well, I'm not giving up. It's just going to take longer to get where I want to go with her than I'd hoped for! She's a very fast learner, and she's definitely picked up the focused heel much faster than Star did. Of course, Star had the disadvantage of first being taught an AKC style heel position.

GSD1buddy, I'll chime in here to note that 'they' who say that hip and elbow soundness is 'not really genetic' are most often the same ones who don't find it necessary to have their dogs' hips and elbows officially certified as sound. While it is most likely true that genetics are not solely responsible for the development of dysplastic hips and abnormal elbow construction, there are far too many dogs that are raised under what would be considered ideal conditions which STILL are found to be dyplastic, and/or with flawed elbows to deny that genetics at the very least are key to the presence, or lack of, a predisposition for the abnormalities--and likewise, there are far too many dogs that are raised with no thought to any effect on those joints which are shown to be 100% sound when radiographed later in life.

Anyone who would try to tell you that hip and elbow soundness have nothing to do with genetics is trying to sell you something, and it's nothing good, you can be sure of that.

Eska got to hear gunfire today, as the club prepped for a trial. She was on a long down at the side of the field while someone did their OB routine. She pricked her ears, and that was all...Teeth Smile  Unless Melba exposed the pups to gunfire, this was a first for her.

Nope, not surprised at her reaction!

Was surprised to get an envelope in the mail today from OFA. I was expecting a longer wait!

Hips: OFA good

Elbows: no signs of joint disease

Oh, and she came into season about a week after the x-rays were taken!  Roll eyes
