Jenni78, maybe you can please help me. You wrote "A simple Google search will often tell you where your dog's siblings are and allow you to contact the owner."

I had a dog who had a genital problem but her gene for it was different from other dogs with the same issue. Her display was also different. The team doing the research begged me to locate a relative and one displaying the issue who might carry that gene causing the issue and see if it was the same as my dog.

The breeder was of absolute no help. AKC has the policy of not giving out dog owner names.

Your solution above seems so simple so I tried Google with an AKC dog name and it did not work. So I must be doing something wrong.

So please tell me the method you used to get the results you said we could get. I appologize in advance for being an incompetent Internet researcher.

Thank you in advance for any help you can provide.

Alamance, try posting the pedigree here? I'd start a new thread, but there is a good chance someone here knows something, unless your dog is completely pet-bred.

Alamance, I'm sorry, but you took my words out of context- I was referring to performance-bred dogs out of top winners/competitors being easily researched. I was making the point that it's harder to hide problems in circles where folks post a lot and talk to each other.

Having said that, do as Dawulf says and start a thread - "looking for relatives" with the dog's name. I'm sure several of us will help if you can post the info.
