Shawnicus

In a first world society he says lol, have you watched the news lately ?
I really can't blame you guys , you're entitled to your opinions obviously but you don't know a damn thing when it comes to what a hard dog is , I can't stress that enough ..a dog that you play fetch with or take to your grandmas house or title as a certified hot dog tracker is not something you depend your life on or take on the street. Yes I agree a dog like that has no place in most scenarios and no you can't take it to a dog park and let kids poke at it , that's not gonna translate into a real dog for me !! But it doesn't mean it's a bad dog either !
About 85% of police dogs in this country shouldn't be on the street and the ones that belong have weak or poorly trained handlers which cause 100% of issues, a good working dog is always gonna have an edge and there's always a possibility for accidents.

Thumbs Up I read Kit´s post the same way.

I am glad people like Mithuna and Shawnicus do like dogs of this kind - otherwise it would be difficult to place them, or they would end up in a shelter after a while...

A stable, dominant, even not social dog doesn´t need to agitate everything and everybody in its surrounding - it´s not necessary.

Contrary a puppy trying to chase anybody/anything, only shows that it feels uncomfortable, fight or flight, unstable + aggression = fight, as long as there is no resistance.

Every owner does have the obligation for the deeds of his dog, that said a dog ( trying to ) bite someone without real (!) reason is no "good dog" in society, and for sure no good dog according to the breed standard.

You bought this dog, well knowing about its genetics, now it´s up to you to socialise and educate it as good as possible, and as soon as possible.

I´d do it, because otherwise you will have a lot of difficulties later on in daily life ( visitors, travelling, vet ) - in the worst case you´ll become a very lonesome dog owner, or you will loose all your money because of a law suit.

A dog has to listen to its owner, no matter its temperament, and the handler/owner has to be the only one who decides if there is a real threat or not.

The human should be the leader, the one who decides, not the dog.
At least that´s my approach to life with dogs.

You've  clearly misinterpreted everything I said.
sorry if my idea of a good dog is not something you're uncomfortable with having around, what you consider a good dog is a house pet and not suited for real work and neither are you. to me a dog is a tool first and foremost not something you can take to the park on a Sunday afternoon and feed puppychino and play freezby with.

thank God there's enough sensible breeders out there who see it my way and refuse to sell dogs to people like you.

???  You never met me and my dogs...

" sorry if my idea of a good dog is not something you're uncomfortable with having around..."

Think about this sentence once again... Teeth Smile

You wanna talk about "masculine" ? In that case behave like it..  like a man, and tell your pup what´s appropriate and what´s not.

Kind regards

I live in upstate NY....I see MANY a police dog that do act like they will tear your ass up IF you approach their partner IN THE CAR...these same dogs go on to schools, fairs, etc., and are quite approachable. THEY HAVE TO BE!
And Minutha/shawnicus you seem to be one in the same in your logic/theories of what is a correct German Shepherd.

Kitkat stop making up
Stories, those are ambassador dogs , no department will be cool with a bite trained dog going to scool with kids and almost all departments require the dog to be muzzled when not actively working. Nice try though

FYI a correct GSD was keeping hundreds of people on the otherside of a wall for decades and chased and attacked anything that moved and didn't eat for a week or more at times ,a correct GSD was used to keep prisoners in concentration camps and savagely mauled people...
It wasn't meant to sniff hot dogs for a bullshit title or accompany you to the local park where you can let it loose or be a therapy dog , tell me again what s GSD suppose to be ?🤔

Utter nonsense, Shawnicus, at least as far as K9s in the UK are concerned. They take Operational dogs into schools and exhibitions all the time, here. And so they should be able to. If an Operational Police Dog had to be as you seem to suggest, our Police would be looking at another breed; certainly not the GSD which - I repeat - was NOT designed by the founders to be the sort of dog you describe. Maybe some other breeds are / were originally conceived as 'harder' dogs, that would bite anyone who dared to look cross-eyed at them, but they ARE NOT German Shepherds. And believe me British Police Dogs are tough, and their bites HURT.

Don´t tell me about "the wall" - as a German I had to live with it, and I had to witness the desperate attempt of dog lovers to find places for these poor dogs. Most of them were euthanized ...

The "DDR" dogs or "Czech border patrol dogs" you are able to find in any pedigrees nowadays were not used for "border patrol", but for sport and breeding. Take a look at the pedigrees...

But maybe as a beginning you should read the breed standard.

I really don't care what that idiot Von Stephanie's thought he created ! GSD has been historically used as a war, police or guard dog, that's its legacy ,not a take it to a kindergarten and to be used as public relations etc
