I have a funny story about GSD intelligence....My dog ( who recently passed) when he was about 4-5 months old I had baby gates in my home set up in my kitchen so he wouldn't run amok when I was at work. My father would come by every day and take him for a walk when i was at work. Two days in a row when my Dad arrived at my place my dog had been having a party while I was gone....i.e paper towels all over, things knocked over and just a full on puppy rampage. My Dad said "You didn't close the baby gate all the way and he got out". I'm thinking I'm sure that I did....Well I tested it out and placed my pup in the baby gate enclosed kitchen and called his name from another room. Sure enough he comes running to me with all his puppy exhubarence. So from watching me repeatedly clamp down and close and open the baby gate he figured out how to open it 'by squeezing it with his mouth and getting out.:) german shepherds are great problem solvers.
