Photo of the dog would be helpful. Also how old is your dog and what is his pedigree.

Chase is 8 months mom is Nilu de casa alpha and Dad is Sam de casa alpha. Breeder told me he looks exactly like Sam I agree. A coat expert told me Chase is a German show line and has a thicker coat. Here is Chase just after his bath.

Dog shown in the picture on this link http://pin.it/Sm2uksT is not a long coated GSD.
This appears to be a standard/regular coated GSD of West German show lines.

Seeofred, I know but people keep saying he is a long hair when I know he is a German show line. And I've told people that he is a German show line and has a thicker coat is there another way to address the coat

Chasepuppy, who are the 'people' who keep telling
you he's a 'coat' ? You mention one 'coat expert', also;
don't believe we have any such thing ! Why are you
listening to 'people' who are clearly just guessing ?

PS - the fact that he is a German Showline does not

prevent him either having or carrying genetics for the

Long Coat, so it would not be impossible, but if he's

not, he's not; end of story ?

That picture isn't great to tell from.

However I met some people who are used to the super thin (compared to German dogs anyway) coats that some American lines have. I once showed under and AKC judge in IABCA that told me my dog's coat was against standard. (He is actually a long coat) But on the same token, they also critiqued the normal stock coat German dogs as "coat too long".

If they told you he has a thicker coat, that does not necessarily mean long coat. Most German lines I've met, working and show, have thicker coats than many American dogs I've come across.

Hundmutter, when people see Chase they think he is long haired just because is his fur is thick and isnt your normal short hair. They think oh he is a long haired Gsd. And the coat expert is someone who has and breeds long hairs and happens to know everything about the gsd coats and told me Chase is a German show line and they have thicker coats. And I'm correcting people when they ask about the coat.

Welcome to the world of GSD ownership, Chasepuppy.
You will get far more silly questions and statements
about your dog from the general public, as the years go by,
believe me. Been there, got the T shirt.  In fact, I would be

sorely tempted to buy or borrow an adult longcoated dog to

walk around in tandem with your youngster, so you can show

these people what a 'real' longcoat looks like !

Your friendly long coat breeder, who knows all s/he needs to
know about coat genetics, has told you - correctly, as confirmed
by many posters here - that the German Showlines can have
longer, thicker Stock coats than yer average American bred
dog; (but they still presumably allowed you to go on thinking
your dog could never be a long coated specimen BECAUSE
he is of German lines, apparently ?).

I see that you have not - yet - tired of correcting people who
tell you your dog has a long coat when you know he does not;
I wish you tolerance and patience for the future, you'll need
them.

Not living Stateside, I cannot really comment on the USbred
dogs' coats ... but I can certainly confirm for you that here in
the UK it is far from unusual to find that show-bred stock-coated
dogs (whether directly from Germany or not) have better, thicker
coats than many dogs of casual breeding that are met on the
streets. This is usually as much as anything because they are
fed better, and their coats are maintained better, to ensure they
look good in the Showring.
