LF - just some word-play ! [ a coincidence ].

You'll find all sorts of odd colours when GSDs are registered with
our KC ! Sometimes they bear little or no resemblance to the
coat of the pup, or what it grows up as. Combination of people's
lack of knowledge of the Standard and the KC's own laxity / its
refusal to tighten up on breed description.

Gold Sable is usually (when correctly) used to describe a sable
dog that has quite a lot of fawn/brown/tan/red colour in its coat
- along the legs etc - rather than an obvious 'silver thru charcoal'
base that would allow it to be registered as "Grey Sable". It is
often difficult to tell exactly where a dog is on the gold sable /
faded black  & gold/red scale, without meticulous examination [as

with Bicolours ] of e.g. vent patch and 'pencil' markings on feet. There's

a thred about a year back where Ibrahim and others discussed the

errors that can be made, with paled out black&reds being labelled

'sable'.       There were not so many really dark sables about,
until the last few years; so "black sable" is creeping into registrations
now, and is genuinely descriptive, where once it only cropped up on
rare occasions and was mostly mistaken.

The worst example of a 'sable' I ever came across: was a bitch
I had in the Farm Pack, who was a sable, but of a very pale creamy
base colour nonetheless. Her mum was a good grey sable; she
had two normal gold-sable brothers with strong pigment, but this
one somehow got a genetic share of all the wrong bits ! She had
dark eyes and a black nose, and her toenails were a mix of dark
and light. I met her at 2 yrs so did not see her as a small pup
and there were no photos taken of that litter for some reason.

Whites were never exhibited; there was (is still ?) a Club for Whites
and LongCoats - started in the 70s -ish - that staged its own shows,
but the only official KC Show win by a white - much celebrated
by the fans - was something like a 1st in Junior where the dog
stood alone in the class. Little as this was, it gave rise to talk
of white champions; and contributed to the development of the
White Swiss Shepherd.

I have ranted many times about the all too common practice of
some UK breeders producing dogs for the pet market in white
and other 'off'/non-Standard colours, because its profitable and
nobody stops them, with much disregard for health etc as long
as the pups are born the shade they are aiming at. You referred
above to the Epilepsy thred, so you may have seen my arguments
on the subject.

Hundmutter, in your last post you make reference to epilepsy in this thread, however, I can see no reference at all to this problem. I hope that I have no need to go to Specsavers.
