Blitzen, this thred isn't ON the Conformation Showing Forum, its on a general one.
So no clues there, then.

As Joan pointed out, the first replies did the basic, predictable: "Go WL" / "Go SL",
with nothing more to say to a question posed the way the OP posted it. Which gets
precisely nowhere.

Of course SL people are (or we bloody well should be) concerned their dogs ought to
be able to be all-round GSDs as originally intended; but the fact is that the breed
has many factions and functions, and it is only practical to consider what you will
get more of in the particular genetic package you may be soon to create.

I, too, paid for full registration on a pup that was a x between American and German showlines.

She had a 5-star pedigree. Her grandfather was the famous Sieger, Ursus von Batu. She had 5 siegers and siegerins in the first 4 generations, and her American grandfather was a Grand Victor, the top dog in the herding division for 2000.

All dogs in the pedigree had good pigment, and there were 3 generations of good hips and elbows, and all dogs in the first 3 generations, except for 2 of the American dogs, had either a schutzhund title or a conformation title. I studies the pedigree in detail, and couldn't see a single thing to complain about!

Her pigment faded badly by the time she was two. When x-rayed for OFA, she had one hip that was mildly dysplastic. And she has something funny going on with her front end that means her gaiting leaves something to be desired

Yep, pups ARE a crapshoot!!

But I love her anyway. She has a terrific temperament. I have trained her to be my Hearing Ear service dog, and can take her anywhere. I have done tracking, obedience and protection with her. She got her BH last year, but we won't be going for an IPO 1 as she is now 8 years old. I also now have a dog that's full WL breeding, and is a better candidate for protection work, and I want to devote my time to her.

You are 100% right you have the right to say what you want within reason but somehow trying to blame dead dogs/overpopulation on one small subset of people seems to be extreme. Imagine if the breed purists had it all their way. I probably would not own the dogs I own because they possibly wouldn't have been bred. And I would bet that most of us would not have owned the dogs we owned in the past if someone someplace hadn't bred 2 dogs together that a lot of the same people on this thread would have turned their noses up at.

Some of the responses on this forum should give everyone a clear look at why many no longer post here. The showline people have literally dropped to almost zero because they can't even have a decent discussion about their dogs ON THE SHOW FORUM without being interrupted with smart remarks about their dogs and their shortcomings. Very sad indeed.

Geez.........It was a general statement regarding how things usually go here. I used the disinterest of most of the SL faction as an example of some who do not post here anymore.  I'm sure there are also WL people who don't bother anymore either for many of the same reasons, but I am not familar with most of them. At one time this forum was frequented by many SL people who had great information to share about their dogs. It was a lot more interesting for people like me. It's unlikely that we will even get any reports from the BSZS breed judging as we once did.  It seems that almost every thread here ends badly. That's not a good thing IMO.

I didn't say that anyone said in this thread said that the OP should not breed his SL  because of her pedigree.  I guess I was not clear about that, so let me be clear now.

HM, I agree with you here... 'we

likewise have the right to tell them they are wrong, the GSD breed does not need people like that who want to

breed without thinking anything through.'

by joanro on 05 September 2015 - 16:09

Problem is, blitzen, is that nobody said any thing neg about SL, but no matter how the conversation is going, you bring up the fact that SL people have been run off the forums...even when nothing neg has been directed at SL. How can conversations move forward when THAT is always made an issue.
Yes, there are no laws against the two puppy owners breeding their dogs as soon as they become physically capable. And how is trying to give a person advice equate to breed purists ...truth is, indiscriminate breeders are wrong as purists. But all puppies are cute, so the op should not have any prob selling them on the vandersarkennelspuppysite.

by Blitzen on 05 September 2015 - 17:09

Well Joan, I bring it up often because, first it's true and second it has made the forum a lot less interesting for me and plenty of others. If I were being a real bitch, I'd say some of the WL people have ruined this forum for anyone other than their own little group. Intentional or unintentional, it's how it went.

SL people not posting here anymore  might not be an issue for you et al, but it is for me et al. I enjoyed reading and responding to their posts and I learned from them. Some have become good friends who won't post here because they don't want to deal with it anymore.  Now most of what's left here is watching videos of WL's doing protection work. watching dogs that won't out, have no OB training whatsoever and looking at bloodied helpers which is about as appealing to me as who Va's at the BSZS is to you.  If I cared about those things, I'd read Han's forum. I don't look at most of those videos anymore, they are of absolutely no interest to me.

Admin tried to give us our own forum so we didn't have to disturb anyone but that didn't work out either. So I think I'll talk about it whenever I want. I don't need or seek anyone's approval. I just would love to be able to sign on here and read some posts about show dogs without being called an apologist because I like and own showlines. If that makes me a bad person in your eyes, I'm sorry, but so be it.

by Blitzen on 05 September 2015 - 17:09

And to make another thing clear, I have no issue with anyone trying to teach a newbie about the right way to breed GSD's. Just make sure that person truly understands what you are talking about before shoving him under the bus.

I'm thinking the OP is a troll...

by joanro on 05 September 2015 - 18:09

So even when things are not neg talking about SL, you need to make it neg? Well, tell you what. I don't need to be here, so I'll bow out.
It gets old being jumped on anyway. Who needs this. Maybe what's left of the WL people will leave, too. That way y'all can have it back. Kind of like the repub bitching about wanting to take their country back....you can have it.
