Patriot K9 Services: It is amazing and even perplexing why someone would pay 230 grand for a protection dog as you assert. There are two thoughts that come to mind rationalizing that action.. Benjamin Franklin once said: "A fool and his money are soon parted." and a more modern-day philosopher of some note, Ron White, said: "you can't fix stupid".

Hell there are people who would pay 500K for a toilet seat if their favorite actor or sport star once sat upon it.

Wrong thread.

Richard M, you can't rationally explain it but you've come as close as anyone.

Blitzen:

Regrettably, you are right. More proof that "you can't fix stupid".

I don,t think that woman who buy this dog is stupid or sucker she is only inexperience  and don,t know
the difference between a trained scenario and the real world and fight/courage from this dog and there are

many many people who don,t know this

I have done many demos with dogs for open public and if you send a dog in a trained scenarios
and it looks flashy the public get very exited and think this dogs will protect and are killers.

Of course a trained scenario tells nothing about the dog in the real life a PP dog is born with the right genetics
instinct, sharpness and courage you can,t train this.. My first GSD was a very civil dog never trained
with suit or sleeves but he will bite the sh*t out of strangers and will protect you with his life this is
what we need natural protectors not actors trained in scenarios. But all that flashy videos is marketing
and a market for the unknown people and there comes a day this dogs let you down because they
are never real tested under real stress, painfull and tricky /unknown situations. and how to defense themself and
owner, and this is very sad............................

Black mal, how true this statement; "Of course a trained scenario tells nothing about the dog in the real life a PP is born with the right genetics
sharpness and courage you can,t train this.. My first GSD was a very civil dog never trained
with suit or sleeves but he will bite the sh*t out of strangers and will protect you with his life this is
what we need natural protectors not actors trained in scenarios. But all that flashy videos is marketing..."

A man called me from NY the other day. He bought a pup from me seven years ago...he is a commercial fisherman and delivered fresh fish all over the city. Said he needed a dog that would protect him and guard his delivery truck while he was in transactions. And a guard when on the fishing boat. I asked how his dog turned out...he said nobody, but nobody ever went near his truck or boat again with his dog...and the pup came that way, no protection training made him that way...with the right genetics to protect and solid nerves for all situations in the city and on the ocean....and still a great companion at home after work. So he wants another pup for him and one for his old father. The gsd must be bred to be what he is supposed to be instead of pretend.

Exacly Joan very good story a good GSD is a natural protector it,s in his genes.

by Blitzen on 25 August 2015 - 21:08

BUT it's not always about the dog, often it's about uneducated buyers thinking they need to pay huge sums of money to get a PP dog or whatever.  Try to sell them a well trained dog for 7K and they will think it can't be a good dog, too cheap. Offer them the same dog for 150k and they will jump on it. If it's expensive it must be good. It's the American way Wink Smile.

Blitzen, I get you. But its evidently not only the 'american way'...look at the money paid in China for gsd.
