This is one of "those" threads.
I've always had multiple GSD's.
Had packs spayed/neutered and packs left intact. My study showed far less problems with intact dogs. Yes, its far more work keeping them intact, but worth every bit of it. JMO. Take care

Try explaining this to animal control services in certain counties in California. They are passing mandatory altering laws. My puppy was let out of the yard by some children of a horse boarder at my moms few years ago. She was picked up by AC. I was contacted few minuets later, due to her being chipped and I.D on collar. After spending a few frustrating hours with the receptionist at the shelter, (she couldn't figure out what truck my dog was on), they tried to tell me the only way I could get her back was to have her spayed. She was 5 months at the time. I had to prove the dog was actually a resident of another state, and was only visiting Riverside County, before they would release her, and even then the officer tried to make me feel like an idiot for not spaying her. Luckily her AKC paper work along with various paper work from vet was all under my AL address.  I understand the over population problem, but it seems from these studies and evidence, that altering at young age is detrimental to health of dog.. Wonder how many dogs will be affected health wise by these ordinances?

Erin, they don't care how many are affected negatively. They'd spay before the pups are dry if they could get them under the knife fast enough. Has nothing to do with overpopulation.

Thanks joanro. But I personally think that this is an adverticing from vets/labs which take adventage of the overpopulation to sell their products and to receive their honoraries. In my country vets always try to boycott laws in favour of spy neuter campaigns.
