I also use it. One dose of 1ml. After first pup is born.
It really does seem to help in the process, and in nearly 20 years, I have seen no ill effects of it's use.

Scares me to see you wait to go to vet this affternoon...posting here on Sat...waiting for a dose of Oxy is more dangerous than anything it could harm..
I have used it for 30 yrs and no problems..in fact one dog I did not use it on had mucuous problems a week later.

I have never let any bitch wait after 7 pups out, as they get tired and hot and oxy can help bitch as it is automatic for a contraction to restart if even a very healthy female is tired...
Pups get stuck or in a higher position and if in the canal for any reason, and the Oxy just helps move it on out...A pup cannot stay in the birth canal as the sac ususally has a tear in it by that time and pup drowns,,

GET A NEW VET,,,,,,ONE DOSE OF OXY , COULD NEVER BE DANGEROUS IN HANDS OF ANY OWNER OF A WHELPING BITCH...MY GOODNESS....

i ALWAYS kept a whole vile of it in my fridge...along with anti snake injections, and lots of other things for my gsd,,When minutes count in the life of a pup or my beloved gsd or cocker spaniel  I have what it takes to keep my gsd in life mode not dead fighting traffic and they do not have ambulance service for dogs....how mindless and heartless of any vet to control a customer....like some vets do,,,

I am spoiled but I control my dogs safety including meds and what needs to be done,..A long list of things every owner should keep on hand COULD save your dog in many situations,

Hexe could probably make us a list,,,
Many household products could save a dogs life,,,in the time you spend getting dog in truck or accross town to vet,,,then let vet take over when you get there,,,learn the things you can do or give your pet that may save its life,,KNOWLEdGE is golden.

Abhay can also list things you need for immediate use and should always have some on hand,  like Benedryl, Vit c injections, or mega dose vit c, antibiotics of Amox, Cephflex, etc , Oxy,  Extra virgin Olive Oil,  Visine,  peroxide, Pedialite in no flavor, pumpkin, liquid  bandaid in  a tube   ,Natural gel for wounds , Wound care,  Tee Tree Oil, Mouthwash, DE, Apple cidar vinegar , Immodium AD, or mashed bananas, white Karo, evaporated milk or goats milk in can, rice ,yogurt, Cottage cheese , chicken broth unsalted, powdered milk,  bottled water, extra cans of any puppy food containing Choline,  extra cans of a good dog food with less than 5% protein content  ,,,,,,Flagyll,, Goat wormer aka Panacur ,,,,corn starch, DE(food Grade only),Cranberry Tablets from Health food store, and the list goes on,,
Forgot important bottle of ALBON, your vet can order for you the large bottle of solution that is yellow and it is used for many things including prevention of Cocci,,,,,,at 4 weeks old,,,and a pregnant bitch with diahrea can be given Albon,.It is a very effective sulfa drug with no side effects and very safe,  I would not even think of not having a large bottle on hand any day of my dogs lives,

Like many here, I've used Oxy for years with great results. The dosage used to be (and still is for some old school vets) 1cc IM.  BUT, I was told by a repro vet who is also a breeder that less is better. I now only give 1/4cc and is much much better!! Try the lower dosage next time and you'll see what I mean.  I don't let me girls go over an hour in between pups. It's too hard on them to drag it out for hours and hours and you will also loose puppies who detach and then try to breath because of the loss of oxyigen and end up drowning.  You can't use it more than 3 times or it will just stop working, unless there are hours inbetween the doses. Yes there are dangers, but used properly it can help make things much quicker and much easier on the bitch, with much less loss of puppy life.

I, like many others have Oxy on hand....I will use it if necessary.  However, during the whelp, I would try calcium first, tums, ice cream, goat yogurt, etc.  I have never used more than 0.5 ml as it can cause rupture of the uterus or placental separation.   I almost always do a clean out to be assured that nothing is retained.
