Silbersee

Hello Koach, even though you directed your question at Juron I would like to answer that from my point of view if I may. I look at a dog like Drago vom Patriot from at a breeder's point of view. A breeder needs to look at genetics, not points or intensity of an individual dog as you mentioned it. Yes, these things are desirable as they prove a point of view. But this would only be a piece in a puzzle. Drago is not even 4 years old (will be at the end of next month), so there is not much to be said about his offspring yet - at least for us in the distant U.S.A. I am sure that working people in the region 6 could tell you a lot more. He scored high points at a young age, must have a lot of potential. Like his uncle Pike he flunked tracking this year in the LGA. Bad day, but overall he had qualified which is a difficult task to do. Drago is out of Nox del Lupo Nero, litterbrother to Nick who I am sure you are familiar with here in the U.S. The N-litter was so nice that Andrea at del Lupo Nero repeated it. The result was Pike del Lupo Nero who is one of the most intense dogs you can currently see - check out what Mr. Koos has to say about him. This is also a typical example of not breeding to "points". Mr. Koos is currently breeding anything he has to Pike but Pike has not won the BSP (yet?). Of course, I am very biased since I also had a Pike-litter recently and they are special puppies - to quote my husband and daughter. We still have two a home at 10 weeks, and especially the female is "intense". The reason I picked Pike is because I admire the philosophy and dedication of his breeder. She has such a successful program and her foundation was "Buster vom Adelmannsfelder Land" who was also Sven Leuschner's dog, breeder vom Patriot. My litter is linebred on him. A little statistic: This year, 8 del Lupo Nero dogs qualified for the LGA, 2 of hem advanced to the BSP. That is pretty awsome for a lady and her small breeding program, isn't it? Talk about points and intensity and all or most are V-rated in conformation. Chris

Thanks Silbersee,

Pike, Bosco and Kinski are three of my favorite dogs. If I was in the market for a dog to work with (French Ring) I would look their way with the appropriate female of course. I understand that as a breeder you look at things 3 dimensionnaly whereas I look at what I see. Thanks for your input.

I agree with Silbersee.  The hold and bark is a training thing and in my opinion shows little about the things that matter when picking a stud.  Genetics?  Nerves?  Hardness?  Ever look at some of the greatest producers of all time and their bark and hold?  Drago is a powerhouse and an excellent breeding choice in every respect.  In my opinion he would be perfect for bitches with lower drives and softness issues but that still have good nerves and ability.

I never mentioned anything about Dragos breed worthiness or whether his training was good or bad. Just commenting on the posted video performance....I'm well aware of his pedigree and have talked to numerous people who have seen him in person....the dog looked tired in the video.....period....I believe I was the one who posted the original question...and I believe Gary and Pam know enough about dogs....I stand by what I said...Wink Smile

The hold and bark shows nothing about genetics or hardness???? That comment speaks volumes.....it can tell me dogs I won't breed to for sure.

You should see him in person to appreciate his quality. I was surprised to see the video. His LG trial might be his worst performance. I saw him in Germany in 2011, excellent dog with intensive drives; you don't even need a ball to make him do obedience.

Nice pedigree and bred on  Bandit vom Oberhausener-Kreuz...Who is also the Sire of Karn v Fegelhof...He produces True Aggression...Drago seems to have a very nice balanced pedigree...Very happy to have him in the U.S....
