Anyone have some good ideas for finding a few acres of flat, accessible land? Our club is interested in long term leasing, and establishing lights and permanent blinds. We placed an ad on Craig's List - solicited the help of the local K9 unit, and are posting fliers in pet stores. We are located in a fairly rural area - and assume that landowners would appreciate a clean club and steady monthly lease check. We are also fully insured for liability. Any success strories from those of you who have had to find a good place to call home?
Thanks!
Thanks!

ask your local parks and rec department if they have an underutilized field.....
you can have a contract written up that you will do the maintenance (saves them money), and insurance (so they have no liability), and a small lease fee (brings money to them)......you might be surprized!

I don't have any additional suggestions, but I LOVE your user name!

can I tag a question onto this one?
SitasMom, you mention insurance. Do clubs just need normal property liability or is there something special for working dog activities? I have insurance for my training/boarding, but don't know about the land use.
Thanks.

I'd suggest researching the Horse Community in your area.
For example Farmers often rent out Paddocks with Fields to those keeping ponies/horses.
Often there is electric power, water and some basic out buildings in situ which you might be able to develop to varying degrees depending on the owner.
Certainly in the UK keeping horses is expensive and due to the economic situation demand has dropped so some Clubs have been established in these locations. My own Club is on a field previously kept for horses, we purchased a Shipping Container and placed it on the field. We've installed an opening window, lights, kitchen units, chairs and racking for sleeves. We can then lock it up securely as the the metal we cut out for the window now forms steel shutters.
It's humble, but 8 of us can shelter from the elements, and our kit is dry, nearby and secure.
