I did some conversion; for example, if 940,000.00 is china currency money - then conversion to American currency is $147,222.29 US dollars which is still insane for the dog.

But if that webside is not mistaken with correct currencly in dollars $$$$. I would say WOW almost 1 million dollars for the dog.

Maybe some people already know about this, but I did NOT, sorry....

I just sold a dog to China for 1.3 million dollars. I have his son here for sale. Sounds good doesn't it ? Who knows if it is really true, not some blurb on a website.

Will the dog or his pups be for dinner, as will he be eaten.  They do do that over there, you may or may not know.  Would never sell a dog of mine there!!!

No doubt sold for a big sum, even if not the one quoted. China has an abundance of wealth in it's upper classes. Unfortunately IMO this is what too many breeders are striving for - a slice of the 'super money' pie. Be interesting to see who gets sold after the biggest GSD 'market place' in the world (German Sieger).

I also believe that this is what is holding back the SV from really concentrating on breed construction and health, since having created a market for a 'type', they have to continue to produce more of the same if they want to keep making the big money.

There is a dog with really horrible construction on that website in the dogs for sale section, and the link to her pedigree has been removed.

The comment about dinner is ignorant and asinine to me.....people who have that much money to spend don't spend it for those purposes. That dog will live better than the person who wrote this.

We have all seen the bloody german shepherd pelt photos... is it so hard to believe after things like their birds nest soup for a small box:
The ones I saw in the Chinese store ranged from $800 to $1,500 per box (You can see the $888.99 price on the orange star shaped paper on the right of the box in the image below. Click the image to enlarge it). And these can go upto $10,000!
http://blog.maisnam.com/archives/000212.php

or how about eating endangered animals for their animal "powers"

Even normal endulgent yummies like black truffles can easily run 5,000 for one single morsel. The prices of primium caviar in a small jar versus whole wight of a gsd? Anyone up for puffer fish? Sea urchin tongues? Kill a whole creature for one tiny little tongue of only 6 cm. Endangered sharks for shark fin soup, eating them into a wipe out for their species.

Do I think the dogs like Larus and the Tiem they bought for exorborent amounts have been eaten? No, and I hope I am right. Do I see that it could be done for a mental act to declare themselves in their culture, yes. I however do not doubt those two dogs are providing offspring to be eaten and that is enough. I do not support China in dog comsumation well because they are dogs but it is much deeper than that. I see they have protein shortage for their people. I cannot condone or wrap my head around the brutal killing the animal goes through. Yes it is "tradition" for their culture for the animal to have a violent death in their belief. I myself was born in Africa and have experienced other cultures with barbaric to us customs. Times change and we do have world ethic standards of acceptaple treatments that other countries are being forced to adhere to. Why does the manner of how they butcher dogs get supported? How can everyone that objects to this ritual automatically get labled a bad person? How can anyone jump to the defense of our lovely gsds being sold to China before ending this barbaric practice of beating live, concious dogs to death because of the archaeic believe it will taste better? How many people fight for the French geese being force fed for larger livers, horses being slaughtered for food source, and other frowned upon dietary practices but have no problem with the dogs?

So to alleviate this protein shortage you believe exists, someone in China dropped a million bucks on a dog instead of buying a herd of cattle?  Do you realize how profoundly fucking STUPID that sounds?

I would not choose that way of life to eat dogs. Have you seen enough pasture or crops to support cattle? Have you ever seen starving people? Starving people who live in cities where cows do not live? I have been in Africa and seen people kept away from barges of grain the USA goverment sent to feed them by the warlords because hungry people are weak and easily controlled. I would rather find a solution so that no one ate dogs. I would rather no one ate horses as to my they are a companion and not protein. But I do not believe I am fucking stupid to be blind to it happening or why like you.

straight for Chinese history:
As LongMa suggests, people will eat anything when they are starving or don't have access to a whole variety of foods. In ancient times, the poor Chinese ate mostly rice, salted fish, pork, and by the 16th century, sweet potatoes. In contrast, the surviving menus of upscale restaurants in China from virtually the Song Dynasty onwards completely lack dog meat, because the upper classes were too busy eating a variety of quality and exotic meats. Dog meat was too low class (which has been nullified these days). Once eating dog meat became socially accepted, it became ingrained into Chinese culture.

They even sent dog meat to space with their astronauts:

China's first man in space, Yang Liwei, 44, revealed that while in orbit, he and the crew of the 2003 Shenzhou Five mission consumed dog meat from Huajiang county in Guangdong, China. Dog meat was served to astronauts as late as 2009, according to a menu from a mission.

Yang Liwei's revelation has generated criticism and sparked controversy over the morality of using dogs as food. Jill Robinson, the founder of Animals Asia, criticized Yang, whom she said was a role model for children. She told the Telegraph, "[Dogs] found survivors after the Sichuan earthquake and protected people from potential terrorists during the Olympic games. Surely they deserve more."
