I have a new mom here with a littler at three weeks old. They have already started to play with her food a little bit. When they do that she will immediately go and start eating her food and will growl at any of them that come near her food. I am worried that she may hurt one of them. Otherwise she is a great  mom. Please advise what I should do with this. I worry with the puppies moving to regular food soon.

at this stage, i never let the mom feed with the pups as this will happen, the mom  will kindly eat the pups food , but they better not touch her food , she is just showing them  the first part of pack order. if you  let her stay and feed with the pups she very well may bite them. i dont feed the mom at the same time the pups get fed. i do indeed have a same type of female .

Thanks for that. I do seperate the mom from the pups when I feed them, but she grazes and I leave her food down all the time. I will keep this in mind with her food bowl and keep it up when the puppies are out in her area. She is a first time mom so I am a first time grandma and learning this stuff as I go. She is a really great mom to them, but I guess I worry about every little thing where the puppies are conccerned.

Mom will not (should not) hurt her puppies over food, if she does I would not breed her again.
I would not leave food out for the grazer, I would feed by a schedule and feed mom and pups separately.
I do let a bitch have any puppy food that may not get eaten but not the other way around.
Feeding on a schedule is better all round for pups and owners.

hard to believe that you can,t figure out to not feed her in their presence..and she should not growl at her pups over food..she is not stable.
