IT SURE LOOKS LIKE THE EASTERN BLOOD BRED? THOSE DOGS FOR THE MOST PART LOVE BITE WORK AND ARE USED ALOT FOR PROTECTION, K-9 TRAINING, THEY ARE HIGH DRIVE WITH ALOT OF TIMES UNSTABLE NERVES. I HAVE SEEN THEM, VERY SKIDDISH, NOT ALL BUT THIS IS JUST ONE REASON I DO NOT CARE FOR EAST LINES.

The dog was a PARTICIPANT of the BSP !! The NATIONAL Sport Championship in GERMANY !! Hello?? This dog quailfied in a regional to get to the BSP !!

M.Carter, where does the blurb say that the dog was a participant of the BSP?

by eichenluft on 25 October 2004 - 19:10

The blurb on Stern TV, does not say anything about the dog being titled. It does not say that the 7 year old was a family member. "BSP dog bit a kid..a family member. The kid required more than 100 stitches !! Picture of dog on Stern's website." is the information given - BSP dog (normally) means dog entered in the BSP - the German SchH3 Championships - which would indicate he is titled SchH3?

OK, unofficial translation: Bite attacks -- how dangerous is the GSD? Seven year old Andre W, wanted to only adjust the slipped collar of the GSD, with whom he had just played peacefully. Then it happened: according to the owner the non-dangerous dog fell on the boy and injured him severely. With 100 stitches Andre was sown and up and today he is still suffering from the experience. Not an only case. There are always new cases of bite attacks. A Study from the Main Veterinarian Facility (translation???) in Switzerland came to the alarming conclusion: although the GSD only represents 12 percent of the dog population, he comes up twice as often in the bite statistic. And so, he is at the top. Stern TV has spoken to the Bite attack victims, Breeders and Owners and looked around in the Scene. In Guenther Jauch's studio it is about dealing with the queston: how dangerous is the GSD?

Hello M.Carter, I am still waiting on the information that you have that the dog in question was a BSP participant and that Andre was a family member. I liked the dog headshot. All of you who felt like dumping on that nice head shot should be ashamed of yourselves. From the picture you could see it was one of those "skiddish dogs". Help me! What on earth are you trying to prove?

Hello M. Carter. . . and Wildthing. Where are you?

I agree with Sunshine 100 %. How do you know it was that particular dog? The media tends to use any photo that they might have on file. For all we know, it might have been a mutt which looked predominantly like a German Shepherd. It would not have been the first time. No, the magazine "Der Stern" has a track record for giving the GSD bad publicity. In the mid to late 80's, there was a mass-demonstration in front of their business with participants of the police, SAR, the SV, pet owners, and other organizations which utilize the GSD (avalanche etc.). This was following a big feature article (called "Die schwarz-gelbe deutsche Bestie" or something similar) in "Der Stern" which contained several pages and was very ugly. The magazine had to publicly apologize. I just read the article about the mass demonstration in the SV magazine. It must have been quite moving to see these hundreds of people with their dogs marching. Another indicator that this is not something big is that no other magazine or newspaper picked up on that. I would know. I look through them every day - Spiegel.de, Yahoo.de, Bild.de, Augusburger-Allgemeine.de, SR-online.de, Tagesschau.de, etc. Chris
