yes, raw egg whites will damage the coat (nails and skin too).
I sometimes feed raw eggs, but usually I soft-boil them or crack them open, separate the yolk from the white, scramble the whites in a pan and after they are cooked add the raw yolks back in and feed that way.
Some dogs won't eat the shells unless they are crumbled and mixed in, other dogs will eat whole shells.  They don't seem to have any problems with consuming whole shells or large pieces of shell.

Both.  I get so many eggs that when I can't sell them all I will hard boil them for their bed time treat.  Mostly I use raw.  They get some yolks only (I eat 6 whites for breakfast every morning) and some whole.  Averages out to about 1-2 eggs per day.  No shells.  They just crush them on the floor or in their crates and I get tired of cleaning them up.

Yes I was told and read from the last 20 years that the egg whites are not good for puppies; interrupts the absorption of calcium in the system,  so that is probably what you guys remember.  Nan  I do give raw to adults though, sometimes I HB, or scramble though.  Some eat shells some don't and it does make a mess.

Fresh, free range from the farm and whole but I do give them outside

3 or 4 a week.

I prefer my own scrambled, but raw for the dogs. HB give them gas- wow, does it ever.
I also smash up the shells into their food.
I used to be against raw, but had a 10 year old GSD that started having some itchiness issues and coat problems. She also started getting that "old dog" smell. After trying all kinds of things, I started giving her raw eggs and saw an immediate improvement. Then after transitioning to a raw diet, she was like a different dog. Better coat, more active, overall just a happier, healthier dog.
