There are a lot of "proven breeding females" and pregnant females for sale here, and i was just wondering if maybe somewhere in their pedigree information, there should be info as to how many litters/pups have already been produced? In the U.k we can find all this information readily, along with the sires of any litters produced, dates and number of puppies in the Breeds Record Supplement. It makes for interesting reading, and certainly exposes the quantity breeders.

Zacsmum, that information is available on the S.V. Genetics CD-ROM, but of course it is only updated at the end of each quarter. For a fee one can subscribe to the S.V.'s online service and see reports that are updated much more frequently, but of course this is only for puppies that are S.V.-registered.

For A.K.C.-registered litters an online progeny report is available for a fee of course. But; what is really in this report-the number of males and females born (without names or registry suffix numbers) or the registration numbers and names of each puppy that is registered thus far by its owner? I do not know as I never used this service but I suspect the former.

Regards,

I should add that I use A.K.C. litter registration and the next time I have a litter of puppies (rare at my place) that I will register all of the puppies in my name before they are sold and leave it to the new owner to transfer the registration. At least that way I know it was done, as nearly every puppy I sold over the years went to a pet/companion home.

Bob, many thanks for the info. I realise that there would be loopholes for the not so scrupulous to wriggle through, and it wouldnt take into account the many unregistered litters each year. I just thought it would maybe sort out some more wheat from chaff if the info were available freely on this database.

Jane, some of that info MAY be available here if you click on the 'progeny' link in the database, under the dog's name. However, it will only list progeny that are registered in the data base, therefore the data is by no means complete.

Thank you Sunsilver. As i said, such a scheme would not be without its flaws, as it would rely on complete honesty from breeders. Neva mind, back to the drawing board!

Bob,

even if you register the puppies once in your name and/or kennel name, the new owners have the right to change the name once. So, it does not do any good. I reason with people because I tell them that it makes no sense to have the puppy in two different names if I also register with USA/SV.

If I have to I will make it part of my contract. I have heard that some breeders do that. A few years ago, I denied a puppy sale because the prospective new owner was an excentric lady who wanted to change names completely. After a few converations on the phone, I politely told her to find a puppy else where.

Chris- on AKC you can change the name? Or SV? I was under the impression you were stuck with what you got when buying a dog that was registered AKC. Shannon :)
