here is a question for someone who has tattooed a litter of puppies. I tattooed my pups last night about 7 pm. They were placed in to seperate kennels untile the ink dryed. We then let them go back to the puppy play pen for excercies and there are water bottles for them to drink from. I left them in the playpen while i was at work today as we do every day. It is way to cold for them to go out for to long here so outside trips are short and for bathroom brakes. when i got home they all seem to look like little leprachans and some of the ink is fadded from the ear.
I did put more ink in the ear and sperated them. Has anyone had this happen and what do you do if it does. I have tattooed a lot of dogs and puppies but never a whole litter at the same time. after you do this what is the normal procedure after they are done. if any?
thanks

We have been tattooers for a long time (12 years?) and never worried about separating puppies. They get tattooed and put back together. Yes, they do smear ink everywhere, including the mother but that is only temporary. It does not matter how much ink is anywhere as long as you rubbed it in good into the tiny holes. After you punch the number, spread the ink over the holes and massage in really good and thouroughly taking your time. I even tell people that they can wash the ink off around the outside of the ear or anywhere but the holes. We also shave the ear and clean the area with rubbing alcohol before tattooing, anything to make sure that the ink sticks. If it does fade (and we had that happen too) it is usually the quality or age of the ink. Now, we use two different kinds of ink on the dogs at the same time: The one supplied by USA and the one from Hauptner which we buy in Germany.
Hope that helps.

thanks chris it was faded out of the ear and we rubed it in prity good i think we rubed till the bleeding stoped. I uses 2 kinds of ink also there is a green roll on we did first and then we used the green paist. They are all covered in green smear i have green sables right now. MOM is not with them anymore and does not realy want to play with them eather so she is not a consern. I was unsure if i should wash the ear and try to remove any crust or scabs and reaply the ink or just give a bit more ink just in case.
I put more ink in the ear..
do wash out the ear ? and if so how long do you wait. I can not immagin that it would take vary long to heal the tiny holes. do you have any sugerstions for after care in the future.
one of these guys is going home in a week ,i to make sure he can be bathed to go home.
thanks

We also tattoo and put the pups all back together.. the last litter apparently did a lot of grooming each other because all poops were green the next day!! First time we have ever seen that!!
Pups probably shouldn't be bathed for a week or so after tattooing and ear should be left alone as much as possible.
Hope this helps

You can wash everything except the inside of the ear. Make sure that no water goes into their ears. There is also a concern with rain, but only for the first day or so. Once the punched holes are crusted over, there should be no more worries.
