I'm a newbie. How do you get ears tattooed on puppies?

Hi Veronica, Your breeder should have done that, and most say do it before the dogs are 8 weeks of age, it has been done till the age of 14 but with some complications. Most say that when the ears are beginning to stand it can damage the cartlidge during that stage of age. How old is your pup? Jerry PS you might email the local Tattooer in your area via Schutzhund USA

I don't have any young puppies yet, I would just like to have the information. My 14 month dog Jaks has an ear tattoo already. I wondered how it was done...I have an idea from goats, but I don't know how it's done in puppies. Or how the tattoo number is assigned. Does one order a kit? thanks for your responses.

Okay, that is a great idea. I'll email the correct person for the job : ) Thanks

Leerberg has Hauptner tatto equipment available. You can have an assigned series of numbers by being a registered breeder with UScA or you can have your own particular series that is unique to your kennel name. For instance, Mittelwest puppies have MIT in their tatto, my kennel (Brachbank) is BBK... etc. JDN-US P.S. Of course Ed has a video available on tattooing puppies

Is Ed of Leerberg? Even a newbie knows Leerberg has lots of videos for sale, LOL. I actually bought a used one too, from ebay. Thanks for the information, I greatly appreciate it. Veronica
