What is your opinion of breeders who export German Shepherds and other dogs to China and other countries who have no anti-cruelty laws to help protect animals?
Some countries regard dog meat as a delicasy and China's belief is that the more torture the dogs suffer during prolonged slaughter, the better the taste of the meat. On a T V programme shown in the U K, it showed a GSD bitch wearing  a tin muzzle being skinned alive so the fur could be used as well as the meat.  Yet we have breeders proudly exporting to China, Korea etc and showing off that the one they bred has won some show award.

Totally against exporting to China etc... It's all about the money, no thought as to what may happen to the dog eventually when it is of no further use. It breaks your heart to see our beloved breed being treated so cruelly.

What about people who live there who actually want a nice dog and don't believe in animal cruelty?
Are they S.O.L. b/c some do?

Open statements as in refusing to send to a country seems like you are stereotyping a whole race of people.

Why would the chinese pay high prices to skin and cook their GSD? Have some common sense instead of being racist.

The one I saw on T V was so obviously a pet. She was gently wagging her tail as the tin can muzzle was put on and she was ties to railings. If you wish to export to China, have a word with Animals Asia first. They can reveal far more than I can.
The vets that I use have a vet nurse who spends at least 3 months every year in China. Different countries have different cultures, call that statement racist if you wish. This nurse has the courage to go to this country and tries to help many dogs and cats. Many dogs are stolen for the meat market. I would never sell a dog to a country that has no animal welfare laws in place and acted on.

The thought of this just makes me feel truly sick.

I agree that it is huge sums of money that encourage people to export dogs to China. I doubt for a minute that their highly priced dog would end up like this whilst they are doing well and producing show wins and puppies.

I have may concerns about what may happen to them when they reach 'retirement' age. It is an indisputable fact that China has a very different cultural background when it comes to animals, and I don't think that's racist, just the way it is. Blimey, I have concerns over some breeders here who 'out' (rehome/sell) dogs that have passed their useful productive age.

Personally, no one could offer me enough money to export a dog of mine to China, (or many other overseas countries), and I genuinely mean that, even if it was enough that I could put my feet up for the rest of my life, I would never rest easy again.

Edited to say - I know we must not turn a blind eye to these things, but I really wish I didn't have this image in my head now.

WELL SAID

My concern is not so much for the highly expensive animals who are sold to China and other countries - they are almost certainly far too big an investment to be relegated to the dining table (although it could be viewed as a statement of wealth)

I have HUGE worries about all the puppies that these dogs will produce and who will not make the show/work grade.  These will be passed on/sold as pets and their future could be horrendous.  They have regular culls of pet dogs when there is a case of rabies - their deaths are not pleasant.
Incidentally I have worked in both China and Korea and have only ever eaten vegetarian while I have been there.

Trac123.  The thought of that poor dog wagging her tail prior to being skinned alive turns my stomach, the image of that is fixed in my head. I would like to see the same thing done to those who inflict so much cruelty on our canine friends.
AlysonR. Excellent post.
