You could have waited a little while longer and done the prelims at 12 months then they could also be sent for A stamp if all the correct info was on the x-ray

I know I could have waited and done the pre-lims and A stamp at the same time. I do not like to sedate for xrays... since for the A stamp the dog MUST be sedated I chose to do the OFA pre-lims seperate and without sedation. I have never sedated and dog for xrays and do not like to.
I am still not sure if I will do the A stamp on Ice's hips and elbows. It is just something I am "thinking" about doing. I do know that at 2 years old I will do his official OFA's, without sedation.
Thanks to everyone that has complemented on Ice. So far Ice is....
HIPS - Good
ELBOWS- Normal
OFA DENTAL - Full Dentition
DM -Clear

The SV is requiring sedation because it gives a truer picture of the dogs hip conformation. IMO OFA should require too. I never xrayed a dog without sedation when I was ready to send it for certifcation. If you think it can't make a difference, you are wrong. It boils down to this - either you want to know the real status of your dogs' hips or you only care about a number.

Blitzen,
You said.... If you think it can't make a difference, you are wrong. It boils down to this - either you want to know the real status of your dogs' hips or you only care about a number.
Not one time did I EVER say that it didnt make a difference.... I said I PREFERED to do it without sedation. That is my personal opinion. To say that I "dont care" about the real status of Ice's hips and only care about a number??!! Nothing could be further from the trueth! I care very much about my dogs hips and elbows or I wouldnt have taken the time to research the ZW scores on both his parents or taken the time and money to have Ice's xrayed. So I DO CARE!
Again as I stated before that is my personal opinion nothing more. I respect your beliefs and have never said "you dont care" .We may not all agree on everything but should respect other peoples beliefs without saying that we "dont care" about our dogs.

Ok then, points well taken as long as you understand that you are not getting the best view of your dog's hips if he's not sedated.

A I mentioned in the above posts, I believe that it is better to xray without sedation. I beleive I got a good and true view of Ice's hips and elbows for that matter. That is the reason I traveled an hour to the vet that I did. This vet has been doing OFA xrays(without sedation) for probably 20+ years... he does several a day. I am happy with the xrays I got of Ice's hips as well as his elbows. This is how I feel and I will not degrade anyone else or their dogs for feeling differently.
As I said before, as well, I do care very much about Ice!! I would never say that you, or anyone else for that matter, doesnt care about the dogs and just wanted a "number" when that person at least has taken the time, energy and money to xray their dog. There are so many people( in general) that just breed their dogs to make money and think that because their dog is pretty and has a great temperment it should reproduce. But yet wont take the time to at least make sure the dog has good hips/elbows in the very least. I by NO MEANS am saying you(Blitzen) do this as I know that is NOT the case.
So in the end I guess we will have to agree to disagree.
Everyone else, thanks for the complements on my boy. I will try and get some pictures of Ice this weekend and post them.
