tina
unstable in what way?

hi D-R according to a friend the dog will rip your face off for no reason!. if you look at it wrong. there doesn't need to be any threat to the owner or the dog, for this dog to turn on you.
and supposedly he is very very small for a male in height.
by Haus Simpkins on 07 March 2007 - 02:03
the reason he would rip your face off would be if you grab the dogs muzzle especially while on lead after just doing a full protection routine. (ASK DAWN) thats who you heard it from. or approach the handler with the dog on leash, he will react because he is trained to do so. Most of lions Progeny meaning over 60% are with depts such as ontario, maubern, nova scotia,DOD 4 males in this litter went to a private security firm . i am sorry that i didnt title lion in a routine such as schutz. but the real life thing instead. So Tina5 unless you are Dawn And have seen or worked with him i really dont feel you have much say. His Sharpness is controlable and his workability is unsurpassed. for I and i Alone can do anything to this dog that i want to. Its a bond and trust factor. I am The Only important thing in his life

no i am not "dawn"
I do know her and from what i was told was the dog was in her crotch area, that's why she pushed his muzzle away, i don't think she is stupid enough to grab a dog that isn't hers by his muzzle- and that's when he went for her.
why would you have your dog out socializing after a full routine of bitework anyway?? you should have known he would be pumped up.
i'm done talking about you your dog and Dawn.

This S*&t is getting really old. It seems all I have been seeing lately is people bashing other peoples dogs. Who cares if the dog is not titles in Schutzhund. If you dong like it dont buy from this breeder. I know this will shock some of you but Schutzhund is not the be all for a GSD. We all can attest to the fact that we see many, many dogs that would not pass a legitimate Schutzhund test. Just because a dog has a title does not mean it is a good dog. A good dog is a good dog is a good dog. It does not matter if the dog does Sch, PSA, PPD, MWD, or hunts Alligators. If that is what you want your GSD for then hey go for it. That is what we all love about this breed, and can and will do anything we ask of it. BTW half of the people that say a dog is unstable dont know there ass from a hole in the ground. Stability is a perception, there are so many things...scents, movements, phrases that can impact what a dog does. The attacking is getting out of hand.
People preach Sch Titles, Breed Surveys, Show Ratings when a good majority will only trial and show on their home turf and under Judges they know. Lets face it "EVERYONE" has an outstanding female with crushing grips, comes in like a freight trane, bites like a crocidille (sp) you name it we have heard it. We all know that is just not the case. I wont even get started on the Males that seem to be everywhere, except the Nationals! Sorry for the long rant but this stuff gets my blood boiling.

Hope that dog had poor socialization as a young dog. If not he has BIG problems. As to titles they are friendly flags that attract or should to a sound breeding. If you want a dog for what ever reason you should look to the alphabet soup that it parents came from. SCH,PSA,PPD,MWD,or HA. Yea Shawn it can get tiring but some carry the torch to give others hope. --Bob

I agree that a dog does not need to be titled to be a working dog. I appreciate a dog with civil hardness as many sport dogs are lacking this quality. My dog is a hard dog and if you are not his handler or he does not know you he would not allow you to handle him as it should be. Some Schutzhund dogs are mostly prey and do not do well in a real life threat and do not do protection. I prefer a dog well balanced with prey, defense and fight drive. He is stable as well no fear that he would bite someone for no reason. I do not think he would tolerate a stranger pushing his muzzle as it should be.

Some dogs just have a short fuse. I don't believe this is instability. The dog needs a heck of a lot more work than most dogs, for sure, but I tend to view instability as stemming from insecurity, and I know there are sharp dogs that you could never faze. It just so happens it doesn't take a lot to get them to react--which in a real life situation, may be more desireable, do you really think a bad guy will scream and wave your dog away until he decides he's bad enough to bite?
I think putting your hands on a dog you know is a PPD or similar is just asking to get bit. I think people tend to blame dogs way too much for their own mistakes. I've been bitten once in my life and it was my own damn fault. Each time henceforth I make sure I know what terms I am with the dog before I even stick my hands out.

S.Vargas, Alabama K-9, Shinokami, thanks for the posts. I do not want to get into this one. It is too draining to compare apples to oranges but I appreciate your willingness to do so. We have had two entirely different mind sets on this board and I don't see this being straightened out soon.
