PANDA SHEPHERDS ("RARE/UNIQUE") FOR SALE? Check this crap out... by usimports on 16 May 2007 - 20:05 |

WOW, I could not help but post this here. This person is selling these puppies as AKC Registered "Rare" GSD's... (Unique, rather) http://www.puppyfind.com/l/?acct_id=44129&sid=f674c1921b5f042d06d8282d489834eb
I must say, I am so sick of all of these back yard breeders and people trying to make up crap for those poor, unsuspecting buyers who think they honestly are getting something "Unique" or "Rare". |

The ones with spots don't even look like GSD puppies - they are different in the head, expression, ear-set. At least they are only $400 and not $4000 like some "rarities" will be priced.

Speaking of which....this topic came up on another board. Does this look like a Panda Shepherd? If so, they're already ending up in the dog pound. Luckily this pretty guy was adopted. http://www.germanshepherds.com/forum/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=341537&page=3#Post341537 |

| I don't think they should be breeding untitled dogs, but if that blue male came from titled parents, I would like to have him as a pet. You have to admit, an all blue german shepherd dog is cool. | |

Nope, they look like they have some sort of cattle dog in them or collie. The head and ears are definitely wrong for the shepherd. They are seeling them with limited registration too. Guess they want to corner the market. T- |

| It should make you question the ethicality of the AKC. They will register anything for money. | |

It would seem as if there is a secret hybridization going on, but there is an argument that this gene did sport spontaneously in the gsd genetic pool. I will find the website if anyone is interested. It would be a great shame if one of the few breeds that are still ostensibly measured by its working ability gets off track by getting huffy about coloration. I don't personally like this look, but what if some people do? And what if those dogs can work, and work well? Would you really want to get fussy about the color? You can't have your cake and eat it, too. You can't criticize the AKC for registering them AND criticize people who do not want to breed for the colors you like. What went wrong with the AKC was this it focused on superficial characteristics -- like color -- in the first place. If we stay focused on working ability we stay true to what really matters. That said, this seems to be an unfortunate look! |

This "Panda" shepherd is a rediculous farse. Can be easily achived in 3 generations and have the dogs look exactly like very good german shepherds with this coloring. Can be done in 1 generation if your an idiot and dont care what the dogs look like lol. Heres an example. Find a really good male, Black and Red, little bit on the over angulated side with strong ears, big head, and nice bone. Find two Shetland Sheepdog females from unrelated bloodlines. So....breed the male to both females. The gentics look like this. Maternal genotype specified: AyAy CC sese EE kk BB DD gg mm sisi tt intmintm WhWh 1 potential genotypes: 1 potential phenotypes: 1 potential phenotypes with carried traits: 1 potential carried traits: Now you take males and females from both litters that look the most like GSD's and breed them to each other linebreeding 2-2 on the outstanding GSD Black and Red male. What you get looks like this. Maternal genotype specified: Ayas CC sese EE kk BB DD gg mm sisi tt intmintm WhWh 4 potential genotypes: 2 potential phenotypes: 3 potential phenotypes with carried traits: 2 potential carried traits: When this is done, the idiotic breeder can say "See look, some of the puppies come out just like a Black and Red, told you these were real GSD's" This can be done with any number of breeds. I can think of many that would have a very neet looking coat color on a GSD. But its wrong and unethical. |
