If what you mean by "hard headedness" is a lower level of natural obedience or cooperative behavior with the handler, THEN NO, there is definitely NO genetic link to civil behavior. I have had plenty of civil dogs who are VERY tractable, and non-civil dogs who are LESS tractable to their handlers.

OK, NeinNein, I'll put it this way--hardheadedness is not exclusive to dogs that are civil, and civilness is not exclusive to dogs that are hardheaded.

Capisci?

Bravo. There is hope for you, Young Grasshopper.

Of course not. Was this directed at me? Did I ever say "just"? I happen to own an over-the-top civil dog that is a wonderful member of our household.

I personally have not seen this extreme but I have seen dogs whose presence and sense of maleness alone that can spark fear in the average person.

I have. It is frigtening. I remember seeing one that shook me up so much that I thought I wouldn't return to the club. Rare, but they do exist.

not being able to take away a ball from a dog has nothing to do with being civil, nor with being hardheaded, and since the most KNPV dogs are mixes out of mixes it is very hard to say what is coming from whereWink Smile

There are dogs that exudes this no nonsense kind of power from their personality . Is this confidence?
I don't think it is fair to label these dogs as fear biters.

Agree. It's just a dog being a douche to the owner(s) and it should have never gotten to that level in the first place.

it got to do with level of possesiveness

Which would not even be an issue if the dog realized who the boss was.

When I first started in Schutzhund, a German trainer told me that the most important thing is that the dog knows you are the boss and ALWAYS the boss. Many owners have the idea that they are the boss when in fact they are not. Proof: A dog that just obeys some of the time (or just some commands).

possesiveness is genetic trait, not a trained or untrained one, some stronger dogs you cannot train or command, not to be possesive

furthermore, civil dogs are extremely suitable for law enforcementWink Smile
