Hi Everyone! I thought I would go straight to the most knowledgable people out there as I'm currently looking for a GSD puppy and would like to know if anyone can recommend some kennels. I'm looking to get a puppy from strong lines and great temperaments in the next few months, so current litters or upcoming ones would be the best. I would like black/tan or black/red pigments. I live in the Midwest so kennels within that perimeter would be the best starting point for me. Any suggestions would be GREATLY appreciated! :) You can respond to this thread or feel free to email me at rachaelawilliams@yahoo.com Happy Holidays

Mom, What are your intentions ? This may help us to help find you the right person/persons to contact, Are you going to breed the dog ? Show the dog ? schH sport ? Pet ? Female/Male ? And most importantly what is your daily routine and how much of that routine will your dog be with you ? I guess what you expect of the dog is what I'm asking, That really helps to narrow down the "type" of dog your seeking and helps us to help you find breeders of the "type" your seeking. :-)

Am looking to enter the world of SchH. Also looking to breed. I already have a male from strong lines, so first am looking for a female. Right now am looking for a puppy rather than an adolescent or adult. If a litter was excellent, however, would also probably want a male and female, then look around later for a female to breed him with. Starting off with 4 dogs from really solid lines would be the limit for the time being. I believe in having your dogs be members of your family, so they would be heavily socialized and pretty much go everywhere they could with me. I want dogs that can easily work with people, kids, other animals, etc. That's why I'm also looking for great temperaments and personalities along with their lines. Hope this helps. If you need more feel free to contact me!

Everyone wants to be a breeder!! Why? Some of what you say shows good intentions, but don't be in a hurry to breed until you know what you're doing. Spend time in the sport first.

Obviously since I'm looking for puppies right now, any possible breeding is not going to happen for years. However, I want to leave that as an option. That is why I'm looking for reputable kennels that have quality dogs and great bloodlines. If you start out with a good dog, the possibilities for that dog are much wider than getting a dog from someone you think is good, but turns out not to be. But first you have to get the dog. :) I've heard a lot of horror stories so I wanted to get the advice of fellow GSD owners about who they consider to be a good kennel and begin my research from there.

Mom, Great ! Good for you to be willing to start out with pups and work your way up in the sport. Hopefully there will be a breeder that we can find for you to "take you in" as well as find you the right dogs for your intentions !! That would be the best case scenario. Your description is perfect of what your looking for, I too beleive Family First, Anyway I'll make some contacts here and see what we can come up with. some starters to ask, Bob-0 Yellow rose 4-pack vombrunhaus blueskykennels Make contact with these folks, some are more close to your areas and some of them just simply have the contacts !! I'll make some contacts as well, and get back to you with the results of my inquiries. I admire that you for asking for help, so don't let anyone else give you grief about it, chin up ! :-)

Okay.... You are absolutely right that your best chances are looking toward puppies out of the best dogs. So many people claim their dogs have this or that, and the reality is few of them come close. Look on the litters page, there are a couple litters advertised from the Midwest area with very nice working lines.

Well for starters what area are you located? Do you want dogs from a close proximity, you can see first hand and what kind of lines are you interested in? If you have a few dogs you have noticed that you like, make a list of those and post them. Tell us what you like about them and what you are looking for or must have in your dogs. That should give us a base to start at. We don't wanna be throwing WGS dogs at you, if you want really hard working Czech dogs. There is just so much out there you need to narow it down if you want real help.

Another reputable breeder is Julie Martinez of Mittelwest. Check the website mittelwest.com and you can view her breeding studs and bitches.

I wish you all the best, but hope that you will avoid the trap of thinking that you will buy a male pup as a breeding prospect. Stud dog ownership is a high stakes gamble as most dogs are not breeding material even though they are wonderful pets. You should rather focus on a female and IF she proves breed worthy you can find excellent males around the country or around the world and choose the best for HER. Best Wishes, Jonah

Jonah's got the right idea. Get one or two females (if you want those 2 to get along, raised from "puppyhood" living together is the best bet.) and work with them. Make sure you socialize them to outside dogs (those owned by friends that you know keep healthy, vaccinated dogs), both male and female, and any animals you'd like them to get along with (cats, horses, etc.) I recently placed one of my dogs with someone, who told me that they have never met such a well-mannered dog in their life, and they are overjoyed at having this dog. THAT'S what you want. A dog who will work when it's time to work, and relax when it's time to relax! For your search, I would suggest figuring out exactly what type of dog you want, and then start researching German Shepherd Breeders. Ask lots of questions, and anyone who blows you off unless you want a puppy from them?--keep looking elsewhere. Websites are only a good start. Search this messageboard, talk to breeders via email or phone, get an idea of what their goals are, and see what they feel their dogs have to offer and why. Ask about titles (show and working), hip certifications, pedigrees, etc. Find what YOU like and dislike in the pedigrees of a few dogs that you are interested in. Remember, ultimately these are going to be YOUR dogs, and only YOU can decide what is best for you. Don't let anyone else strong-arm you into something you aren't really sure about. Good luck, and feel free to email me anytime you have questions. I'll be happy to answer!

Without offending anyone, I hate these posts that look like "I am interested and am shopping around for a puppy". Russ Osbourne, dear Yellow Rose of Texas, whoever you are, enjoys a very good reputation in Texas where he once resided. May I inquire who you are to even question this? I think you should go to a SchH field or show ring and figure out what you are looking for. Find some good people to talk to and go from there. JMHO.

sOMEONE ELSE SAID THE INFO ABOUT GETTING A CZECH DOG OR WORKING DOG THAT MIGHT BE TOO MUCH AND I AGREED WITH THAT PERSON, IT HAD NOTHING TO DO WITH RUSSELL OSBURN and on my registration papers of my female gsd out of Nax v Bullinger it is spelled Osburn as he co-owned him with Brenda Grolla. I believe u owe me an apology.

Yellowrose, English is a 2nd, 3rd, 4th language for many on this board including Sunshine. With all due respect, your posts are often very difficult for many of us to understand due to your never using any sort of punctuation.

I understand that but even a kid can read that I didnt criticize Russ Hes my buddy. I will slow down and put periods and short sentences for everyone to read well . Sorry about that. I think fast and type slower and want to hurry up and get on to something else. Ive only had a computor since July and all of this is new. But breeding is not new and rudeness isnt either. Thanks Blitzen. Since I was an english major and a in typng it is like a million years ago that I used all this formal typing so I will have to do better. I just didnt criticize Russ. Now someone else, yes.

my daughter just told me not to use caps because that means ur yelling at someone. So I learned something else today. We moved my computor today to the guest room on my new computor table and I showed this site o her. Now I have to get use to a new setup but it will be much better to not be on the kitchen dining table. Got to run. Its messy and wet in Texas today. Nasty dogs but it is suppose to get colder tonight and clear off. The dogs just chased 4-5 deer in the back of the property. Pretty site to see them fly thru the air. On Comet , on Cupid ,on Donner and Blitzen......Where did your name come from? Blitzen ?
