This is Bella, she is due to whelp in 10 days (I will be very surpised if she lasts that long).

Ultrasound yesterday too many to count, both she and I will be glad when they are here (but not yet please).

This is her daughter from her last litter now aged 9 months

Thank you for both the good wishes and your complements, Bella has had 2 previous litters both times were 9 puppies.

This litter will be line bred 4 / 4 on VA Ghandi von Arlett.

She is xrayed and has her AZ and she is Breed Survey Class 1.

Omg Smile Well here we are Monday November 19th and still waiting for puppies, I was sure that she would have had these babies by now Coffee CoffeeCoffee

We had a little talk this morning and she has promised to get down to business soon Clock or I will book her in for a Caesar on Wednesday morning and I would hate to do that
as my girls have all been free whelpers and have never needed one up to now.

oh my -  she's lovely - and daughter too !!   you're obviously looking at 9 or MORE?  hope it all goes well -- at least she's done this before !!
nothing more fun than staying up all night whelping pups !!  (easy for me to say because i don't have to do it !)  but it's exciting !!

even tho she's FAT --  i wouldn't think you'd have to rush to a C/Section?   my old bitch's  last litter was 16 pups !!  although only 12 were born alive ---  her uterus just couldn't  get some of them out !!  but she went full term and all the pups were 16 oz or better -- biggest one was 22 oz !!!   she was a trooper --- and you're bitch looks like she can handle this with no problem !!!   it takes a healthy dog to have bigger litters --and she looks great !!

all the best !!

Well after a very long day Bella delivered a total of 12 puppies with only 7 surviving. 1 boy and 6 girls all fat & well.

Whelping was all going well with normal and rather easy deliveries but 1 puppy had injested fluid and could not be revived and 4 were breach with placental detachment.
They were the last to be delivered and there was no chance of saving any of them, all very good weights and they were still pink so had not been dead for long.
I was totally devastated and wish I knew why it happened so I will have to do some research as I could not bear for it to ever happen again.

One very tired mum she was a real trooper  and is being a fantastic mum.

Sorry for the ones you lost, but still a nice sized litter. Maybe next time if you breed her again, do only 1 breeding for less pups??

CMills, I am afraid to tell you that was 1 mating done 2 days past ovulation Omg Smile

I have an excellent stud owner/master she has great dogs and a wonderful tecnique Wink Smile

12 is my bigest litter ever. 7 puppies is just perfect, didn't need 12 OMG no.

I mainly felt so sad for my girl, she didn't need to go through that much pain, I cried for her during those 4 very difficult births
She was so tired and just didn't have the strength to push out the last one he was 820gms I had to reach in and hold onto his feet until she could push him out.

7 will be easier and they'll all get a better share of her.  Sad about the
losses though.  No wonder she looks exhausted.  Well done to both
of you;  sounds like that was a heart-breaking last couple of hours
(or longer ?).  But the 7 look great.  Very best of luck with them, hope
they'll do you proud.

Curious question.... How long was the total labor?   Rose's seemed extremely long for her 9 (18 hours).

Fawndallas her labour started at 11.0am and ended at 12.15 am next day so 13 hours, it was so drawn out, poor girl was exhausted.

First 5 were all delivered in exactly 2 hours, that was when my OH looked in on us and said how well everything was going, he spoke to soon!!!

I always tell him to stay right out of the whelping area, he is such a jinx.

Congrats on your very nice litter -- the first bitch i bred was a 'big" girl and her first litter was 13 pups -- 12 were born alive -- last one not.

Second litter was 12 -  11 survived..

Third litter was 11 -- all survived --  see --they're getting smaller -- tee hee --

last litter --  16 -- but only 11 born alive - vet said uterus was way too stretched to get them out in good order -- still breathing.

so it was one live one - followed by a dead one -- then another live one followed by a dead one.  it was just too many puppies !!  they were big to huge --- all of them -- smallest one 15 oz -- largest 22 oz.  but 11 was certainly plenty enough.

hope you don't dwell on the unfortunate losses too much ---  you can enjoy the ones you have -- and mom will have an easier time taking care of them too !!

looking forward to pics as the little slugs grow up !!   ENOY !
