If a dog has a short croup, can this contribute to a dog pacing vs. gaiting?   If a dog has a habit of pacing in the ring, what is the best solution to train for the gait?  The speed of the movement does not seem to be a factor.

Short croup has nothing to do with pacing. From a static position, lift the dog with the lead till it throws it's front out. The dog will then start trotting.
